It all depends on your receive type. If you always aim to push short then D05 is indeed crappy at this due to its bounciness compared to say 09c or Hurricane. You really need to learn how to rob momentum to the sides in order to short push reliably with it, and even then it is difficult. 09c or Hurricane short push is far easier because the rubber absorbs incoming momentum by itself, so you dont need to do so much of that.
That said D05 is very capable for long fast pushing with venom as long as you use your fingers properly. You can also learn a strawberry type movement to do a very stable slow spinny af long push which produces a lot of sideunderspin which can be a nightmare to attack for the opponent. This works quite well with D05 too.
But where it really shines and why so many pros use it is BH chiquita and various flicks. If you learn chiquita D05 is the magic rubber which can chiquita pretty much anything with the correct technique, something which is very difficult with Hurricane. And I truly believe that chiquita is probably one of the strongest receive types especially if you can follow it up with strong topspin countering from both wings.
