They do a lot of fitness already.

A larger swing would make for a more time consuming technique. His major advantage over competition is the ruthless speed of his game combined with good serves.

I think what he really needs is a plan B at the same level for when that doesn’t work for some reason.

And for when he gets older and slower
but Alex already has beginning of a belly. Really a proper fitness program would help them to challenge china. IMHO both brothers are above changing the strokes that got them to the top of the world based on our advice!

So let me get this straight, because there are a few players, that you can count in one hand, in the entire world whom Felix hasn't managed to beat yet and your idea is to completely change his playing style??? SOLID PLAN.
It was mostly a joke. But I think it would be really cool if he did switch to pips. The whole point is that it wouldn't actually change his playing style that much, and that pips might benefit his already-existing style.

Winning isn't everything. Playing good / interesting / beautiful table tennis should be a goal as well.

Felix actually has a very good away from the table forehand loop for a ph player(better that most Chinese PH players), though not as powerful as LSD's or other pros'. Switching to SP will be huge downgrade to his forehand.

In general, SP gains quickness and flatness at the expense of consistency. If he switches to pips, he definitely will have a mighty struggle and doubt he has the patience to stick with it. At a top 10 level, no one would tolerate spending a miserable a few years doing try-error even he is only 17.

Also, Fan and Liang are not the skinniest players on the circuit. And they’re both top 5 of the world
So perhaps there is one area that France could make sure that Alex and Felix excel in:- Physical Fitness and mobility around the court. It must be said that Fan and Liang are very fast for such heavily built players.
Every little helps

Just sharing a personal experience:
1. When Falck won Ma Long a few years back, I was so impressed with SP on FH.
2. Happy happy I went to buy a SP and place it on my FH.
3. I am a natural FH flat-hitter, a habit I find it so hard to overcome.
4. So it should be good right?
5. When I played, I lost under five to the lowest ranked player in my club immediately.

It is just not the same. I learned my lesson. Tenergy and Gozo, just like Koko Crunch(tm) & milk.
Whatchu on?!
He’s never beaten Ma Long

This mentality works for hobby players but for the PROs winning only matters. That's how they earn.
Yea, and that’s why today’s sports are getting boring. Too much money involved…

Cheers

Interesting to draw correlation there....
Do you mean sports in general or TT specifically?
I don't know your age at all so forgive me here but was there was a time in your life when Pro sports were played to entertain rather than to win?
I can't say I've ever seen this, at least not that I can remember...
Part of the intrigue for me is the seriousness in the mental aspect because of the stakes, and that intrigue and knowing how much it means to both sides is a lot of the entertainment.
People dedicate their entire lives to sports in order to be successful. Anyone who plays just to entertain may not make it to where they can be seen unless they are just supremely talented....
It is interesting to think though, maybe there were more mavericks and entertainers before money became (seemingly) the be all and end all...

Nah, man, I have tried short pips on backhand for a few weeks (Moristo sp 2.0), I didn’t gain anything rather some few counters and some awkward wobbly/no spin blocks. Plus ability to smash bit higher down spin balls with backhand - anyway I can do it all better with regular inverted (spiny open ups, counter looping, using spin of the ball) - but it’s my technique limitation of course.
