I had a brilliant bargain on some second hand TT equipment... But when the package arrived I realised that part of the reason is a very strong smell of (tobacco) smoke.

Does anyone have experience with this specific problem? Anything in particular that works great for smoke?

Put them in a box with a sheet or two of bounce. They will smell like laundry.
I actually just chucked the wallet in the laundry but it's too much for that. Came out with maybe 80% of the smell still on it.
Prepping a ziploc with baking soda now

Bro is going to try everything and end up with a racket that has a cocktail of 10 distinct scents all at once 🤣

When I saw the thread title my initial thought was that you were fooling around with a hardbat and somehow managed to hit the ball so hard that the scent of smoke appeared! 🤣
That happens all the time of course, my sandpaper bat overheating

Don't waste your time on smoke infused gear. It's going to take too much time and effort to get it to be non disgusting. Just return it for a refund if you can.

That's one way to put it. I actually enjoy the challenge and getting a €50 refund for two expensive Butterfly blades with T05 on them just sounds unwise.

Update:
I cleaned off the baking soda and gave the bats a wipe down. The smell is now maybe 10%, but what's even better, the smell seems to be mostly on the rubber now. I can put my nose on the handle, sniff, and just get a hint of nicotine. I'll give that one more round of rubber cleaner but after that it's going to stay that way until the rubbers are changed.
Happy so far!
