Help/tips for forehand loop

This user has no status.
Hello everyone. I'm a cpen player and I've been playing for about 2 years now. I always thought my forehand technique was good till I made a video of myself yesterday. And it looks really bad. My arm movement was upwards and i was standing. I tried fixing it but I think that made my consistency worse.

Can anyone give me tips on how to work my technique?

PS: The first video is the one I saw and the second one is me trying to fix my technique. Sorry the first video is so short.

I don’t think it’s that bad. Remember that tacky Hurricane rubbers have a lower throw than non tacky ones. This means a more upward movement or more open racket angle is called for.

What I saw was that you have tendency to step forward with your right leg. This will forfeit your hip rotation and weight transfer. Your right fot should optimally be slightly behind your left fot on a right handed forehand stroke.

Thanks for the feedback.

I didn't notice I had that tendency. Thanks! Was it on the second video you noticed it?

Members of the CNT all use tacky rubbers and they all seem to have a more forward arm motion including XX and WLQ who are about the same height and build as me. I'm guessing their technique is more efficient than mine

I also feel a more forward arm movement during forehand loop would allow more upward movement possibilities for forehand topspin against backspin.

Thoughts?

In both videos.
Don’t compare yourself to them, they hit much harder. Compare yourself to someone with about the same experience. If your ball goes long then adjust your stroke accordingly…
Close your racket angle and hit more forward. It will happen when you start hitting harder.

Actually there is a special video thread that is for this purpose where only selected people are allowed to comment. It’s called something with “video safe bla bla…” Find that thread and post there. Then you will get more valid opinions…

Okay, I can see it now. I'll try to fix that. I tried bending my knees more and hitting more forward made my loops have a lower arc and more power although it was more physically demanding.
Okay, I'll stop comparing.
Thanks a lot for the help

That's very right, but there's a little trick there. Like you, I tried to imitate their movement by launching my momentum forward during the stroke, and consequently I had to do a more lifting stroke with my arm to compensate for the lack of upward brushing. I ended up with a motion very similar to yours. The body and the arm are going in different directions, and that's inefficient.

The trick is realizing that they're not actually going forward, they're rotating right to left. They just happen to hit the ball while their arm is in the going forward phase of a circular motion. Body rotates right to left while going slightly up, arm swings from right to left while going slightly up, and now your body and arm's motions are aligned and efficiency is increased.

hey man, good on you for posting on a forum and asking for help.

Cpen and shakehand will have the exact same technique and principles when playing forehand topspin. The only difference is how you hold the racket. I will come back to this forum later today and watch your video plus give feedback.

For the meantime, I hope this helps you and maybe teaches you some things you haven't yet been taught around you. :

That makes a lot of sense. Thanks
