Hi Heming! I've had really high hopes for your free course on Skool, but got quite disappointed when I noticed you didnt add any more videos to your free course. I understand that of couse, you want to earn some money on that, but I was under the impression that the free course was going to stay free for everyone.
Hey man, I'm very sorry about that! I haven't been in action as much as I needed to for my guys

I am in the process of adding videos for BOTH the FREE skool community AND the premium one.

The free course is going to stay free. And I'm currently working day in day out to bring back the engagement of the FREE community to when it was pumping.

What videos did you want to see from me? and what were your hopes for the free course? So i can make it a good experience for you.

Note: I just quit my old job to go all in on Skool full time as my business, so it's my mission to make sure people get looked after on it now

@Heming Hu

There is one kind of content i'm interested in and I don't think i've ever seen it in videos from pros:

I follow a Chess channel where, even though the game is not live, the YouTuber shows his thinking process while commenting the game. it goes at the real clock pace. The YouTuber will show the moves he considers first but then he changes his mind because of this or that, he starts considering other possibilities, he finds moves etc... he expresses his emotions in all this. his excitement or panic...
he doesn't show the correct move first so we can also think of a position "together" with him
IMO its really a good viewing experience.

---
well for TT i'd like to see a player commenting his match in the same way. Between points: ok that serve didn't work, i'll try this one now. or... i must play more BH down the line or stuff...
of course, in the next point you don't necessarily play that BH down the line if the opponent played on your FH ... but i think its interesting to understand how (pro) players make a game plan, change it etc...

in match interviews, the player answers are always boring: "i just focused and played point by point and kept on fighting". They never say for example: i decided to serve long to her middle 50% of the time because i noticed some weakness there and then put a bit more sidespin to my FH drive

I don't know why. Maybe they want to keep silent their tactics so it might still work in the next match ??? but surely pros will watch the videos of their previous match in their preparation and they can understand what happened, or even remember every match they played so whats the point not talking about it ???

I think we'd learn a lot from that. Instead we watch match videos and see great shots and entertainement but we don't understand whats really going on in the match

thanks. btw watched a lot of videos of your channel. I like that it has original content such like mental issues... keep it on !

Not sure what I'd like to see, but the empty section titles in the free courses looked really interesting, like "dealing with slower balls", or "common mistakes on the backhand", "dealing with backspin". It'd be amazing to learn those, as there arent many guides for them on the internet. Basically all the weeks in the classroom section I think would be a great addition to the library of online coaching material. When it comes to some other stuff, I'd really appreciate specific drills to work on specific aspects of play, for example lets say I cant anticipate my opponent's shots well - what drill should I do? etc. Those are really helpful. Good luck in developing your community, its a great initiative!

it's cool to have the real pro here.. hopefully he will answer the equipment questions and no more H3 silly topics created every two days here on the forum

my question for the OP: can you share some of the mental training and the mental part DURING the match esp when you're losing? I know "just put the ball back on the table", "relax", "don't panic" have been done, but still want to hear from you.

Thanks!

there's one question regarding the blade that I want to ask @Heming Hu , I am using a Koto outer blade (Xu xin dynasty carbon), and I see that the top players are turning towards Limba outer (W968 for example). What is the pros and cons of the 2 ? Does this Limba outer support the 2 wings close to table style better than Koto outer ? Thanks

the most prominent problem for me right now is finding a shoe that fits my feet (apparently bloody difficult bc none of the manufacturers other than asics have a model variant made specifically for wide feet) and there are a lot of problems when you have to resort to buying shoes on an online platform

other than that i would love to see more content about tactics and strategy (for example serve placement on the table, how to play against medium pips, etc.) bc theres already tons of content online regarding technique

You can copy for eg what Quanshibao is doing in terms of commercial stuff and videos, they are putting a huge amount of TT content, just that it is in Chinese. There is everything from technique tutorials to trickshots to strategy to fun challenge matches to match commentaries etc... WRM is also very successful, but they are also mainly in Japanese. I dont think there is any equivalent to them in the English speaking world except for maybe Ti Long.

Most english tutorials are pretty basic in comparison unfortunately.

Those are very interesting ideas! But that also means he needs to get a few good players together to replicate what Fang Bo has been doing.

It doesnt need to be super high level (in terms of match commentary). In fact, one real missing point is commentary on lower level players matches. Kinda like bronze league heroes in Starcraft 2 lol...

Hello, As someone who has had the privilege of being sponsored by both Butterfly and DHS, I'll give you my thoughts on it all and experience

Hurricane 3 Neo with 39.75 degrees hardness was my choice of forehand weapon. The rubbers DHS specifically sent to my house were always better quality (never EVER bubbled, way more powerful and also way harder!) the 39.75 degrees rubbers i was getting, was harder than the 42 degrees that others were getting from the local DHS shop in melbourne, Australia. I really shit you not! haha

Hurricane 8-80 or tenergy 05 would be my backhand choices. Both worked well for me under pressure.

I would boost the living shit out of chinese rubbers 2-3 times heavily. Tenergy i would boost so lightly that its realy just enough to cover the rubber and activate the sponge to be faster and slightly softer.

pros more or less do that. You have a few that'll boost tenergy 2-3 times hard, but thats probably like 10% of players that dont mind a rubber being that soft.

there is no real such thing as "chinese technique" that just do it with a straigher arm, which if you spin the ball correctly and use your body well, it'll yield more quality than if your arm was less straight. I've seen some european pros also do this, we just see more chinese players having this, so we tend to think its "chinese technique" and no... you dont need a chinese technique to suit hurricane, thats BS

Blades with DHS, I was getting the exact handle thickness I wanted, the exact hardness, the exact thickness of the edge. I chose Ma Long 5, with modified handle and edge thickness to be thinner, and softer as a blade with 87grams. This came after A LOT of trial and error and then realising which model i best liked. They literally just kept giving me blades.

DHS was the BEST! I wish i always was sponsored by them as they gave me 100 forehand rubbers per year, 80 backhand rubbers, 10 blades.

I will say, the difference between custom stuff we got as pros VS what you buy, isnt THAT different. It's better sure, but not by that much. What Ma Long actually uses vs what is bought, isn't worlds apart.

Butterfly HOWEVER, what boll uses vs what you buy are worlds apart! I remember trying bolls racket in a practice session and just thinking WTF!! you cant miss with this shit

Butterfly was good in terms of equipment consistency. And when yu think about who and what they market to, its designed to the tt fanatic who aims to finish a tough day a work, come to a club and hit balls with good enjoyment and feeling. It's very fun playing with butterfly rubbers, but its practicality pales in comparison to DHS rubbers boosted.

Very sticky hard rubbers with untapped power like Hurricane, are spinny AND fast when hit well, and on touch shots like serve and receive, it gives you the spin and control you need. Does that mean that I can't play well with butterfly? OF course not, I won many many many great titles with it.

But, if i was to start my career again, I'd go onto DHS right away. Blades didn't bother me as much as rubber choice. Blades are kinda like a tennis racquet frame, and rubbers like the strings. Strings/rubbers are far more important, even though blades/frame does matter to some extent but not nearly as much

Also, butterfly only gave me 24 pairs of black and red rubbers per year and 1/2 woods. you may look at this and think WOW thats so much... But its really NOT... when I'm training 2-5 hours per day, playing competitions 3-6 times per month and hitting hard, using soft rubbers that die way faster than DHS
I was sincerely not expecting such a detailed response. Very informative!

I've always been curious about what happens behind the scenes with equipment and individual player choices.
It's also cool (not unexpected) to learn that butterfly are cheapskates even with the pros.

I guess boosting the rubbers hard when you can change them every 2 weeks makes sense. Have you ever tried using them for longer than that? Did performance fall off by a lot?

You make a great point. I called it Chinese technique because everyone does so, but it's true that I've seen other EU/Japan pros do mostly the same thing.

Thanks for the info! It is greatly appreciated.

PS: Great stuff on your youtube channel.

Some specific tips I would like to know:

1) How to completely kill off the spin against a short, super heavy underspin serve and produce a no spin ball with inverted rubbers. Whatever I do for the push there is quite a lot of underspin due to the incoming spin.

2) How to completely kill off the spin against an incoming heavy topspin to produce a dead block (without much topspin) with inverted rubbers.

Hi Heming! Great to have you on this forum!

I have been following you on youtube lately. And although I consider myself to be more advanced when it comes to technique, I still scour all your videos to see if there is 1 tip that might be usefull.

Recently I saw your video about pivoting, and when you said its better to overmove then to undermove, I imidiately implemented this. This was such a helpful tip because I pivot alot on the 3rd ball and sometimes I got caught out when the ball was slightly deeper to my backhand. Not only was this problem gone, I could also use the extra space to move into the ball and get an even stronger ball.

Wow thats cool. I had no idea you were such a advanced player.

There may be some other advanced players lurking around the forum

I'd like to be the best I can be, improving my main weaknesses.
What's stopping me is :
- No training at all from 2000 to last year
- 40+ yo, training is not as efficient as when I was a kid
- No racquet touched between 2010 and 2023

I honestly couldn't say man, I have never tried xu xin blade. I only know that I like W968 and it requires some physical strength to get the most benefit out of it

I have wide feet and I love the Yonex Badminton Shoe Power Cushion AERUS Z WIDE. It’s light and thin with super good grip. I am on my 2nd pair now.

Mr Hu,
What an offer!

The biggest question I have now and am trying to change but having a hard time is grip change between FH/BH.

Like most people, I mostly had a backhand grip with using mostly thumb index finger.

But my coach suggest I switch to atleast neutral grip for FH, and I find that neutral grip is hard to do with using only thumb/index finger pressure.

Curious on your opinion about how BH dominant grip tends to create too open angle for FH and more flat hitting FH style (as well as a hook style Fh loop with the way the wrist droops down).

It seems all the videos of pros I watch do switch grip almost after every shot, but am having a really hard time doing it.

For reference for others, this is what I mean by FH/Neutral/BH grip:
