How many of you use Table Tennis as a vice?

When I was a kid I got addicted to table tennis because of the feeling of hitting a big forehand topspin shot. It felt a bit like doing magic to get the ball's trajectory to bend like that, and the shape/bounce was super satisfying.

Now I have a pretty stressful and all-consuming job, and I appreciate the sport because it requires so much focused attention that it takes my mind completely off of work for a bit. I always find myself mentally refreshed after an evening of playing at the club.

I don't know if it does anything for my mental health, I encounter stress in matches and annoyance at fiesty and unsporting players who won't serve properly or don't shake your hand after the match. Add that to the frustration at poor technique and slow improvement and I'm not sure why I play this game at all!!!
It does get me out of the house though and I do like to compete. And there is some joy in knowing that I'm better than I was last year. And this has pushed me to get fitter and stronger to help my game. And 90% of the ppl I meet are really cool so it's a good socialiser.
I'm past the point where I'd be getting stoned or drunk instead of playing. Looking back I wish I hadn't dropped it in my 20s and 30s!!!

There is nothing more beautiful to me than the sound of hitting the ball in rhythm. Every point is musical, you can almost tell the shots that were played just by listening to the ball. Training just hitting the ball back and forth is often more fun than playing matches for this feeling.
Reminds me of a bit I loved from the Ping Pong anime/ film where the new Chinese player and his translator are wondering the halls and they hear the two main characters playing. After listening for a while the Chinese player has worked out that it's a defender VS an attacker AND that the defender is letting the attacker win.

I do it to crush my enemies, see them driven before me and to hear the lamentations of their women and because it's fun.
I love the one vs one aspect of table tennis. I used to play football and it frustrated me that even if I played well, the team would still lose if others played badly.

With table tennis, it's just me and my opponent fighting to the death. One winner, one loser.
