I've only owned 1 single ply (Nittaku Rorin). Felt good when smashing, nice "juicy" but solid feedback.

But other than that, felt numb on all other shots. 1 plies are always too thick for their own good, gives up too much impact feedback.

A 7 ply hinoki is a good alternative. Septear was too thin (for me) and flexible. But a ~7mm Darker 7p or Xiom S7 should fit your bill. Feels crisper, and more solid than my 1-ply.

I agree with you lasta. I have tried short pips(dragonow dhs) on backhand 1 ply hinoki sanwei, I am wondering why for me it's difficult to feel that it is hitting through the wood. It feels like it just up to the sponge. I don't know if it's because I cannot hit it hard for backhand, shakehand since hinoki is thick and heavy. 120grams. 🤣
