I currently use tenergy 05fx 2.1 on my forehand and backhand as well with joola k3 (a offensive + blade)
to give you a rough idea of the level I play at, I play 11 hours a week for 2.5 years and I am 17, I play division 2 of my local league (I have won 80%) and i play division 1as a reserve.

here are my concerns:

i have heard that an offensive + blade (which i currently use) with tenergy is too fast, even more so when i play at a intermediate level. i have heard that a all + or off- would be better as the rubber is so fast?

another concern is i have heard players with tenergy make little progress, unless they are top players is this true?

recently i have gotten used to tenergy and am improving at a decent rate, although perhaps i would be improving more with a slower blade and rubber?(i have used tenergy for roughly 6-9 months when I first used it destroyed my game as it was so different.

i play a fairly fast game mostly attacking.

so what do you think should i change my bat/rubber or both? please explain why.
thank you.

If you are a player who hits through everything and your loops are mainly fast loop drives, then the bat prolly fits you like a glove.

What I worry about more than top end or average speed of blade is how quickly the ball leaves the bat. If it rebounds off too quickly, then it is difficult for me to control. The T-8 is a blade that is too quick for me. I similar speed class OFF+ blade, the Primorac Carbon, is perfectly controllable for me.

Good comment Rajah.

I would say it all boils down to how you feel with the setup. Do you feel comfortable with it? Or do you feel like the blade is hard to control for you? It sounds like you are comfortable with it and are asking more because of things you have heard.

My guess is the rubber is fine. Tenergy 05 FX is nice, soft and spinny.

An intermediate level player who using a really fast setup can often improve faster with a blade that is not too fast, has a longer dwell time, and has good feeling: like an all wood blade. Since I am not from UK I am not sure what level players are in your division 1 and 2 that you are referring to. How is your looping skills with forehand and backhand.

Also, do you have a coach? If you do, these may be good questions to ask him since he should know how you play, what you need to work on and what might be good for you.

I think it is important to get the shots down before looking at the overly expensive equipment. The likes of tenergy will give you so little margin for error... and when your learning, margin for error is exactly what you need! If it were me, I would look at an all round blade with some all round + or offensive - rubbers so you can perfect the shots. Once the shots are correct, the rubbers will then seem 100 times better because you are hitting the correct shots. But hey, if you're comfortable with what you're using, carry on! Everyone learns in different ways and at different paces...

as far as i know the British table tennis level (really nothing special compared to other European countries, because i know and have seen several British players who play in a club in Belgium where i see them play ), i am pretty sure every player of your intermediate level should not be changing equipment too much but should train technique and footwork more.

a normal Tibhar Genius or the like on an Off- blade is just fine

I can't see what problem you have.
Do you think there is a problem or do you know there is a problem?

Now, this is a general case:

- go down to slower blade, but keep same rubber - and train to get up to the same speed/spin (if not more)
- then go back to faster blade, and if you can control it, you are able to generate more speed/spin

But your style, technique and understanding of the equipment and knowing how to use your equipment is key to this.
If this is too complicated, then I suggest, don't change - unless you have a problem.

Ie, you want to change your speed, spin, arc, short touch etc etc.
So what you want is what you need and what you figure that out (or with the aid of your coach), the equipment changes will make sense and you guys will just need to make it work for you.
PS. not all coaches knows equipment that well. Some will want to start beginners off with OFF++ with Max rubbers, so i'm just saying :)

i give away on average 3 points in a single set for serve if anyone has a spiny serve because tenergy reacts so much to my opponents spin, every heavy side spin serve i have to sort of brush the ball back, i'm thinking that it may be partly because my blade has maximum stiffness, i will try a new blade before switching completely, my setup is also very heavy, i think i'll try a lighter blade, and possibly thinner tenergy which should react slightly less to spin, and also help with the extremely high weight i have.
the blade i'm going to try is joola carbon off blade, which is much lighter then my current blade, and much more flexible.

if that doesen't work i will try milkway moon, as this is marketed as a clone of tenergy but from what people have said slightly less spin, and speed, but in return it reacts far less to spin, which sounds ideal for me.

i was also considering the hurricane double happiness, as i heard it can be fairly fast(still much slower then tenergy) and can generate as much or more spin then tenergy, but hardly reacts to spin at all compared to tenergy. i do put my wight into my shots,(which i've heard is a must or dhs equipment) but i'm wondering how hard it would be to adjust to hurricane.

I sort of have access to coaches at a club about 15 miles from me, which i usually play at once a week, but i think that they might try to just try and sell me something, for maximum profit, while not really considering what is good for me. (i never play with these coaches as you have to pay)

my local clubs i don't think anyone could really help me with equipment.
