i tried cleaning it with water and butterfly cleaner and it didn't come off. I guess I will use the rubber as a table wiper

Did you even try it yourself? Glued it on a blade and actually played to see if the rubber still works?

You can try with a few drops of baby oil on the surface and plastic cover over it for several hours. There is strong DHS product that promises rubber resurrection, but I don't think is worth the money and the risk of chemical exposure.
