On page 18 of the WTT Handbook (WTT Series and Feeder Series) - 2023, it reads:

The players and pairs who participate in the WTT Finals will be selected based on the respective ITTF TTWR list published after the end of the last event before the WTT Finals, or where WTT determines the need to implement a cut-off date due to extenuating circumstances.

It appears WTT made an earlier cut-off date (5 December perhaps?) Zhang Rui qualifies for the 16th and final spot for the 2023 WTT Women's Finals Nagoya.

its just a silly tournament with very little to gain or prove.
Still no news about points allocation??

I actually wonder, how many countries are taking it serous? I think for non Asians, the ladies are likely using it a stepping stone for jetlag/timezone to get to Japan for the finals. Other than that, I can't find 1 good purpose.

so min 3 per gender must play, a max of 4.

single
doubles
mixed doubles

Now if you are going to do pairing not meant for Paris, then what is the purpose of the pairing today?
reminder Paris teams is doubles, and singles (1 player has 2 singles, and the other 2 each having 1 singles) and then you get mixed doubles

And funny thing is, most Paris teams isn't even finalized yet.

It's WTT's loss. Hirano will definitely draw in more international eyeballs than Zhang Rui especially for a TT fanbase that is sick of China v China. 8 players at Singapore Smash and the china contender after Frankfurt definitely played a part. Although to be fair Zhang Rui did beat out Hirano head to head on a very clear path to semifinals/finals of SS 2023.

At the end of the day, Hirano doesn't seem too bothered. Guess she's more focused on the last two Olympic selection tournaments.

ITTF Mixed Team World Cup Chengdu 2023 Winners to Share 1,000 Ranking Points
https://www.ittf.com/2023/11/24/itt...du-2023-winners-to-share-1000-ranking-points/
Ranking points will be distributed among players based on their team’s final position in the event, played in a round-robin format. The winning team will secure a total of 1,000 World Ranking points, while the second-ranked team will earn 700 points. Teams placing 3rd and 4th will receive 350 points, those ranked 5th to 8th will get 175 points, and teams placed 9th to 18th will be awarded 20 points.

These points will then be shared among team members, considering their individual contributions, such as the share of games won in singles and doubles throughout the entire event.

For instance, if the winning team accumulates a total of 60 games during the competition and is awarded 1,000 points, a player securing 6 games (10%) during singles matches and 15 games (25%) in mixed doubles matches will earn 100 World Ranking Singles points and 250 World Ranking points for the mixed double pair, respectively.

This fair approach ensures that ranking points accurately mirror each player’s performance and contribution to their team’s success in this thrilling tournament. The ITTF World Ranking Working Group has meticulously formulated a point distribution system, with the ITTF Executive Board approving the number of points at stake.

The ITTF World Ranking Working Group will closely monitor the impact of this progressive shift and may recommend its extension to all team events, including the ITTF World Team Table Tennis Championships Finals.

Yet another minor change to the playing system.

https://www.ittf.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/10/Updated-Mixed-Team-World-Cup-v5-Playing-system-1.pdf
3. PLAYING SYSTEM

...

For Stage 1, the highest-ranked team will be placed in Group 1, the 2nd highest in
Group 2, the 3rd highest in Group 3 and the 4th highest in Group 4; the remaining
teams will be drawn into the groups 2 at a time in seeding order (modified snake
system), with the exception teams 17 and 18 will be drawn into groups 3 and 4.

it is another pointless little point tournament, under the new WR points crazy culture driven by WTT

so if you finished 3rd, and your team gets 350 points. and say your team has 6 players (the min), so 60 points per player?? or 100 point for the best performer? either way, its so little.
1000 points for 8 CNT players?
700 point for 8 2nd place players?

If you are in the top 20, you are wasting your time for 60 points or so, over 7 days
Should rather go to a feeder and make the final to get 90~125 points

I still remember FTW used to get 50 points under the old system per win.
so she would walk away with over 500 points

Based on this, Germany, Taiwan, Portugal, Sweden, India, Australia, Egypt all have players choosing to give this tournament a pass (over one third)

Top teams are easily China, Japan, Korea, France, with maybe HK and Singapore coming in after them.
the rest are just fullers

and i'm amazed how big countries like France and Singapore, can't full the roster. Obviously Germany, Sweden and Portugal aren't interested, so they didn't full the roster.
