But not sure Kanak will get the full 500 point jump. He might already have some points from another continental event, in which case (I assume) those points would replaced by the points from this event. So could be a smaller jump up in ranking.

If Bruna adds 500 points it would put her past Adriana Diaz to number 16... but I think she's already defending the 500 points she got last year for winning this event.

That's right. I don't think top 30 players are even allowed to play feeder events, so any more points for Kanak will have to come in contender and higher events.
I think they are but there is a cap on the number that can play and the situations are sometimes special (national exceptions). But yes, he won't have that many events he can play in any more. But I am sure he likes that lol.

Kanak gets all the way to 26. Eugene jumps 101 places to 66; hopefully encourages him to play a few tournaments this year.

Lily up to 25. Maybe her highest ranking? And Bruna up 4 spots to 21.

Only one continental - Dr Evil was speaking generally about getting points.
so how many 500 points you think Kanak can get?
Contender winner is only 400 points.
I didn't go check history, but had Kanak gotten more than 500 points ever before? or even twice?

Only 1. Your highest unexpired Continental results is eligible for your world ranking.
I didnt ask how many continental counts, I asked how many 500 points can Kanak get or want him to get. 500 points isn't easy....

other than the top few, there are only few players that can collect many 500+ points per cycle.
Alexis only has 2, and that is due to him winning european points few days ago.
Dang Qiu x 1
PF x 1
Truls x 1
Felix x 3
Hugo x 4
TH x 6

If only getting 2 x 500+ points is that easy.

I think it's because she cannot gain any points from it anyways since she is already Pan Am Champion. Same for Hugo.
I guess that means Pan Am champion and regional champions (Kim Kum Yong) will also qualify for world cup? It'd be strange for them not to go otherwise.

cup and championships is pretty different
each continental qualifiers for each cup/championships

and yes, if you don't take part, it will still be on WR for the other spots.

I guess with Diaz and Hugo not taking part, it just allows for fellow Pan Americans to have this 500 point (and the same for finals points)

No, but there are at least 24 spots based on world ranking, so not a concern for Hugo and Adriana
Yep... Kinda strange that the ITTF World Cup home page does not have the qualification criteria, but rather it's in an ITTF news article:

The qualification to the ITTF Singles World Cup comprises:

  • Automatic qualification for the current World Champion;
  • Automatic qualification for the current U19 World Champion;
  • Twenty (20) players qualified through the Continental Cups;
  • Twenty-four (24) players qualified from World Ranking; and
  • If no players qualify from the host association through the above criteria, then up to two host association players shall be nominated by his or her association;
  • If a host association player is already qualified through the above criteria, then up to two additional players shall be added based on World Ranking.
