I start to grasp why it is better for most to develop and play with smooth rubber instead of long pips. Thanks for good advice from you who already been there. I realized that part of the fun with long pips for me was that it makes you a little bit different. Kind of the same feeling of only using green rubber.
Long pips are designed to do some things very well, but are terrible for putting your own spin on the ball. And table tennis is about putting spin on the ball, mainly topspin to force the ball to clear the net.
I have now tried to chop with a few different inverted rubbers and kind of the same feeling is there. And with inverted I can put as much backspin as I want on my pushes.
I will keep my long pips bat though and use it from time to time. My love and fascination is still there.
