late report of Westchester September 2013 Open...
I showed up Saturday afternoon somewhere in Manhattan and metup with forum member PingPongHolic. We walked through the streets to a sports club and had the staff setup a beat up table in an open area of an unused BB court with lots of dead bright light zones haha. We played 4 matches and had a great fight together. PPHolic is one cut, lean, fit dude full of TT fight. he is ready for anything. he even brought a net to replace the crappy one there. There were showers there, he even scanned his subway card for me to get to another place to link up with a friend to get to Victor's place.
Had a great stay at Victor's place and great talk/fun. Crashed, then it waz rise n shine to get ready for the TT action with a hearty breakfast and re-supply mission for bananas and grain/nut bars. management was consulted and approved my participation in U1900 as I registered before the Hartford tourney, so to battle I went...
First match vs a mid 1800s player, got a great lead 2-1 but failed to put away seemingly easy shots and LOST. haha, what a way to start off the day!!! Won the rest of my group to advance 2nd in group. Played U2200 and went 1-2 to crash out early and lost to David C again haha. he is really making a killing off of me LOL. Played Richard D and was without a brain the first two games before figuring out how to play aggressive. You play aggressive vs him and he blocks or counters you into lost points. I got game 3 with a lot of good shots and rally, held even in game 4, got to 9-10 and had upper hand in a powerful rally and Richard played his ass off in that point for a wonderful off balance/position block for a winner on a shot that woulda/shoulda been a winner for me. what a bad break!
I played U2050 and won my group 3-0 for advance 1st place, then immediately played a kid who had to do some serious battles to advance. I think he had a really rough 5 setter that he came out on the winning side and looked pretty gassed out by the time he played me. He is the one with the trophy next to me in our pic.
Waited a couple hours for my crossover match and got outmatched by a Boston player upper 1800s or somewhere in 1900s and crashed out 0-3. he simply had the answer for me and I waz outta there. Got my ticket home punched.
All in all, prolly played around 13 matches. Think I went 9-4. Prolly will keep around the same rating. I had visions of my playing 2000 in USA, but at least for this Northeast sector, I am most definitely NOT 2000 material, not even close. maybe another era, but not now and where I will go to for the next couple years, my TT training and playing chances will be bleak. maybe I play a couple times a month, but who knows.
Ran into Heavyspin, Richard D, and a good number of MyTT forum members who said Hi and were the utmost good people. I got to take pictures with maybe 1/2 of who said Hi.
So... here are the pics.

Pic might be out of order, but OK.

Well, that just about does it, had a great time, felt like I didn't play enough, well, because I failed to win enough LOL. Gunna train real hard with Bogeyhunter in the morning and try my hand at the Baltimore TT scene before I pick up my car from the port I shipped to the States. Look out Baltimore, an energizer bunny is headed ur way haha.
