Personally, I glue the rubber on and lightly weigh it down overnight before I cut it. Never have issues with rubber shrinking. It might be worth trying when you are glueing to avoid this happening again. I do it to make sure the edge is glued down properly so the cutting itself does not damage the glue bond on the edges of my blade. Seems to work for me as I never have issues.
G1 is a hard rubber to find much better all-around offence. Maybe T05 of D05, but you will lose some safety as the G1 is unusually spin-insensitive for the performance it delivers. Hybrids on the backhand can be difficult in match situations. I did use the 09C on my backhand for a while, and you need to have outstanding footwork for this, as it is not forgiving if you are slightly out of position.
