Nittaku Ma Long Seven - Blade

Hi everyone,

Today, I am interested in Nittaku Ma Long Seven blade. It is a 7-ply blade, produced in collaboration with DHS, in tribute to this legendary player. Very few returns are visible on this blade and yet it is found at the top of the most popular blades on a well-known reseller site, at the price of 90€ instead of 150€.

Is it a pale copy of the DHS Hurricane Long 3? Is it a real good quality alternative?
If some of you have already tried it, I'll let you tell me more about this blade, which I didn't even know existed.

patrick's reviews are always worth reading(if you haven't already)
I guess you see it at the top of TT11's leaderboard, but I think that's just for better exposition of the blade(it's on clearance)

I have this and the DHS long 3. Long 7 has outer Koto layer compared to the classic limba-ayous of the long 3. Long 7 has a crisper BH and a good FH but doesn't boast as much flex as the Long 3. IMO both are really great blades but I would prefer the Long 3 as it is lighter while being just as fast or faster than the long 7.

I have both the HL3 and the ML7, both of which are great blades with a good feel for short play. The HL3 has a bit more flex which I prefer. The biggest difference for me is the shape of the handle, the HL3 has a rounder profile which really seems to help me transition from fh to bh, and makes BH loops against backspin much easier to achieve with quality.
I used a Nittaku Acoustic previously and the HL3 feels really similar in it's ease of use to me, but a bit quicker and more solid for blocking.
The ML7 is close/similar with slightly better blocking and slightly less easy bh, I did really like it, but I love the HL3 and always chose the it to play with; it just seems to fit my playing style better.
Having said that, curiosity (ej?) has got the better of me and I am going to try a HL5 soon. . .

Did you say Acoustic feels similar to ML7?

Acoustic is known for its legendary feel in the 5-ply arena. ML7 has similar feel to a 5-ply?

Can you elaborate more?

Sorry, I can see how my previous post may have been a bit jumbled.
You are right about the Acoustic - it has a delicacy of feel that neither the HL3 or ML7 can match.
I was comparing the HL3 vs the ML7 in the short game; both good in my opinion. But not competitors with the Acoustic.
I don't have an extensive knowledge of different 5 ply and 7 ply blades, however, when I am the feeling I get from the HL3 is very similar to the Acoustic - where it feels like the blade has wrapped around the ball and produces a lot of topspin. In comparison the ML7 loops really well, but doesn't quite feel as soft or flexible.

Oops, pressed send when I was trying to insert a sentence. . .
* . . . however, when I am in a loop to loop rally, or performing fast loops the feeling I get from the HL3 . . .
I may well not be the most sensitive to feedback from a blade.
Some 5 ply blades have felt stiff and hard to me, whereas both of these 7 ply blades feel relatively soft and flexible but can generate good speed too.
Hopefully this is a bit clearer, and it is only my impression/opinion after all, others will no doubt have different experiences depending on how they play. 😁
