Outer ALC users, why do you like your blade?

i wouldn't call it a positive contribution when testing and reviewing equipments without the proper skill. that seems a little funny.

It is what it is. I definitely prefer different rubbers than MZ, yet, by roughly understanding his level and preference I am able to quite precisely estimate which rubber (of those he writes about) might be of interest to me. You need to put this into the context, important in this case, are the relations, the differences between the rubbers, and this becomes useful only when someone presents this info about sufficiently large number of rubbers. And, if a pro would present his testing of rubbers, he would likely be interested in smaller differences, than you know, we, are quite able to perceive. I am not saying such report would not be interesting, I am saying, that you don't have to be a pro, and yet your report is interesting.

Regarding your comment about "chinese" rubber, well, first it is a huge oversimplification, and second, to be honest, I've expected much more mental flexibility. These are all just rubbers, don't overthink it :) We can see it as a lake full of fish.

I play close to the table and punch block all my oponent opening loops with my BH, or i counter loop with my FH.

I like the outer ALC for the reduced vibration and it's easier to block. I feel i have more control and better speed.

My nickname is "The Wall". 😁
I think I agree that I like the way outer ALC blocks. I like the solid and quick punchy feeling of blocks. But maybe that is the only shot that I like.

The biggest issue with outer ALC is that I don't have confidence in my FH loop. Maybe I'm not used to the feeling. But I'm always never sure whether I'm long or shot on my loop.

i think it's worth it to say something to help when someone doesn't know what he's talking about

it's not about like or don't like - it's also a service to the community as well

i understand what you mean, NDH so i am sorry if my comment seems offensive.

You know I just glanced at the the forum posts and I believe literally more than half of all threads on TTD are about equipment. If you don't like equipment talk, it sounds like you are on the wrong forum.

In regards to this thread, I'm not pretending like I know everything about blades. On the contrary I opened this thread to try to understand more about the benefits of outer ALC blade archetype. Obviously many top players use this style of blade to great success, so it must have its benefits. But when I play with it, I somehow lack confidence to play my normal shots well. So I'm asking what I am not appreciating about this outer ALC style.

How many threads on the forum posts that belong to you MZ? I feel like you just keep asking the wrong question over and over again.

When you say "lacking confidence", that answers exactly what is your issue - and yes it confirms once again that you are buying confidence, not working hard to earn it.

I can tell, you were that guy in high school who made fun of the kids who scored higher on the test for studying too hard, and made fun of the guys who scored lower on the test for not doing as well. You actually sound like you're still in high school to be honest.

I'm just going to ask the questions that I want to know about. To the people who want to dialogue and help me out, I appreciate your responses. To those who don't want to respond, that's perfectly fine as well.

Michael, just want to let you know that I learn and benefit a lot from your posts on different blades and rubbers. I just come back to playing table tennis after more than 20 years. Choosing a right blade and rubbers to fit individual's style is part of the fun. I think we all would have a main setup for practice and games as well as a few other setups to spice things up. Cheers~~

Totally agree! All the different equipment and styles is one of the things that makes TT so interesting and fun to play.

Actually I graduated at the literal top of my class and went to Ivy League school, so actually nobody was rolling their eyes at me.

But clearly you were the guy looking for people to roll their eyes at. You clearly have self-esteem issues because you constantly look for ways to put others down. I'm sorry your father walked out on you as a child and your mother re-married a man who didn't care about you. Something along those lines obviously happened to you as a child to create such a worldview for yourself where you feel the need to build up your own self-esteem.

I agree that the young kids have too many options that are really just distractions that keep them from really learning how to play.

But USDC assured me Michael Zhang knows about dwell time. Yeah, right.
I am still waiting for the answer to the question "how much dwell time is required to loop?".

Um, obviously you can loop with even the stiffest blades. You can loop with Primorac Carbon even with little dwell time.

But having dwell time gives more control and feel for the ball, which is why Ma Long and Wang Chuqin and others chose the HL5 archetype.

But obviously not everybody chooses the inner archetype. So for those who prefer the outer ALC, I'd like to hear about what they like about it.

really? did you talk to Ma Long and Wang about their choices?
if you really think thats the reason, you once again confirm that you absolutely know very little about table tennis

Well Dima did say that the reason he choses his inner-style blade is because he wants more dwell time. And he said that he got his idea from Ma Long. He said that in crucial moments in a game, he wants that extra confidence to go for his biggest shots.

But since you are so enlightened, can you tell me why Ma Long chose the HL5 archetype?

We all know what Dima said. I just want to hear your original thoughts.
You went to Ivy League school, you tell me ;)

I already said what I think. I agree with Dima based on my own experience of using inner style blade. I like the extra dwell time, the extra confidence on loops, the extra feeling of holding the ball. I believe ML and WCQ chose the blade for the same reasons.

YOU are the one charging others for not having a clue. So the burden is on you to explain why ML chose the HL5 archetype since you claim that my explanation is wrong.
