Hi this was posted on another forum the tale tennis forum whats your thouhts? The ITTF has announced that in July 2014 the new "polyball" will come into play. Instead of the current 40mm celluloid ball we'll be using a marginally (less than ~.2mm) bigger, plastic ball.
The initial rumours are...
[SP] Butterfly Innershield ZLF :: Xiom Omega IV Elite 1.8mm :: TSP Super SpinPips Chop Sponge 2 1.4mm
[OX] Stiga Classic Carbon Offensive :: Stiga Calibra LT 2.0mm :: Tibhar Grass Dtec.S OX
[INV] DHS Power G7 :: DHS Hurricane 3 Neo 2.2mm :: Galaxy Mars v2 2.3mm

The initial rumours are...
- Ball bounces higher or "more true"
- Less spin, especially on less active strokes like serves and pushes
- Less speed
- Ball makes a sound that would appear strange to players used to the current celluloid ball
