Just curious what what people thought of the young India players game that won the Belgium open last year? I think there are other YouTube videos out there that call him a blocker, he does block but not sure about that title. He is ranked just outside of the top 100 now and I guess he has had other Quality wins and was a part of the 2011 bronze medal Juniors India team. I have heard that tt is relatively popular in India (just hear say really) but I have wondered in the past if a country like India can produce more 100 lel talent. Regardless he seems pretty cool under fire and i for one will be interested to see how his game continues to translate and develop.

@gmiller2233 : Not sure if you have checked the ITTF rankings ... here is a list of the top india players. There are 4 of them in the top 100. I am an Indian and I firmly believe that from the physiology part of it , we share some of the strengths that make south east asian countries a leader in racket sports , what is holding us back is the lack of transparency , politics and , infrastructure and professional support in terms of coaching and sports medicine. If you take into consideration the recent rise of Indian women in Badminton , you can probably understand .. anyways here is the list ...

for the topic in hand , is sathiyan is a great talent , of course and because of his age and physique , he is only going to keep improving as he matures both physically and mentally ...

Don't take this the wrong way, as you probably meant it in the nicest possible way, but this post should have asked more questions and made less statements. On Sathiyan: the strongest and highest level part of his game coming up was his blocking game, he developed his looping game to a higher level later. He was always a natural blocker, the coaches had to continue to force him to loop and improve his loop.

As for India, other than their legacy top player Achanta, there are others like Ghosh, Amalraj , Sathiyan, Shetty etc. who are playing well. In fact, I keep wondering whether Nigeria will have a chance at a medal at the commonwealth games next year in men's TT since England, India and Singapore are looking pretty sharp and no one is really matching Aruna and Toriola is almost if not retired.

Nl thanks for the insight no offense taken. Should have ask better questions, I was being lazy:) And for the record I did not mean to dismiss other outstanding Indian players past or present and they're accomplishments, or imply no other India player in the or close top 100 (could see where it looked like that, again lazy). don't know much about the landscape of tt internationally (but I think it a interesting topic and I thought some people on here would know) or the ittf top 100 beyond looking up a specific player I've seen, or say at the top 20. But as fan of the sport it's fun to see young talented player with an exciting game making a run at a ittf championship events and winning it. really enjoyed seeing his style and game throughout several tough matches on his way to winning Belgium championship, my only real exposure to the young man. In the one article I read it mentioned India won a the bronze medal in the junior worlds in 2011, so that's a a good sign of talent coming up. Not even sure what to ask just made me curious what tt talent, System etc looked like India. Thanks again TT monster for shedding some light on that.
