The People's Republic of Korea (North Korea) and Chinese Taipei are, in my opinion, China's unofficial players in the Olympics.

These countries compete in the tournaments under China's shadow to avoid any possible surprises for China.

Yesterday, North Korea beat Japan, one of the favorites, in the mixed doubles. Similarly, Chinese Taipei made China's job much easier by beating France, another favorite. What do you think?

I think you shouldn't mix politics and national agendas with sports.
Oddly, I think think they did. Just as I don't believe their hypothesis (not really a theory) holds any merit.

CNT is uncontested and will remain so. I for one am happy that the DPRK mixed doubles are doing well and I wish their athletes competed more on the international scene.

This.

What is this conspiracy theory anyway. Are you implying that Taipei and North Korea will throw the game if they are up against China? In honesty I believe those two pairs that won are actually harder to beat.

This really triggers me somehow. What's gonna be next? Saying all chinese origin players that are in another national team now will throw too?

Why not just enjoy the sport as is and stop trying to put other perspective in it.

obviously TPE is on there own and isn't part of CNT training structure, like PRK is.
PRK players train full time in China. TPE doesn't.

In fact, Sweden has its star player in China recently, so I'm guessing Truls is now an agent too.
All of Hong Kong China is an agent too?
How about all the non Chinese, Chinese players?
and all the players that are trained and coached by Chinese people....

I think China should just play a China national tournament in Paris then, to fit the narrative of such silly and boring remarks.

And if you believe that, the world is flat and it is also the strategy of all the commonwealth countries will do and let GB win all

i guess OP wasn't born yet when KOR/PRK beat China
6th XD seed beating the 9th seed, and its called knocking out the favorite? hm.... i'm lost on this one?

The Indian coach said that everyone, including China is afraid of facing the Indians early on.
When I saw that, I was like..... I guess the Indian coach have not heard of North Koreans.....

PRK is the biggest fear for any 1st rounder seeds....
PRK has often been unseeded and have caused so many upsets in OG throughout the OG TT history, In fact, PRK holds the 2nd most medals for womens singles, behind China and in front of every other TT powerhouse (in front of TPE, KOR, JPN, SIN etc).

If we take all OG TT events (of which we should note that PRK didn't qualify for all OG events due to its little to non partipation on the international circuit.), they are ranked 5th in medal count, behind only China, Korea, Germany and Japan.
So many mighty TT power houses, are behind that of PRK..... so PRK is a huge threat for the past 3 decades of OG table tennis

It's a shame the NK male isn't playing in the singles, he looks like a really talented player.
world ranking points play a huge role for selecting who takes part.

this is why in Asia championships.... it is so difficult with the likes of PRK added to the scenery.
Only Asians understand how tough continental TT really is.
PRK has always been mysterious.
Many years ago, one of the coaches told me he led a contingent (of TPE national juniors) to a friendly tournament in PRK. All 8 players got whitewashed. The girls obviously had really terrible numbers and loosing under 3s and 5s.

I read something about a player called Li Gun Sang from North Korea few years ago
I heard he was a good chopper
What happened to him ?
I heard he was banned along with many other choppers
Is this true ?
Does anyone know why ?
Was it due to some political situation of PRK or something else ?
Are choppers allowed now ?
Are there any in Paris Olympics ?
Dunno about the NK situation but there's been a few defenders at the Olympics. Yang Wang, Gionis, Malobabic etc.

Yeah but singles and doubles are not the same. You can be a great doubles player but not as good at singles be because of the difference in shot timing, power and recovery. So his talent may not completely transfer to singles.

Yeah for sure, but his doubles partner is playing singles, and I just think it's a shame he doesn't have the same opportunity as her.

Mmmmh, no... It's actually another North Korean player in Women's Singles (Pyon Song Gyong).

That said, I agree with you and would also like to see Ri Jong Sik's level in singles!

That must have been a qualification result. It is tough to qualify in Asia and Europe even when you are broadly competent given the requirements (ranking affects seeding) and continental (and national which don't apply here) quotas. And if he didn't play in a qualifier, that is no one's fault. He likely did and came up short.

in 2019, it may be a 5th/6th match playoff, but PRK does know how to play
