Should I keep using this damaged viscaria?

A while ago I played without an edge tape and my viscaria got damaged and now it looks like this:

the other side is fine though. It's quite close to the backhand sweet spot I think so does it affect its performance? If not, should I use this side for FH or BH?

Yes it will be fine. I had a similar thread with a beat up Viscaria I had in the past. I glued rubbers on it and it played like normal

Either secure it with epoxy to not splinter further, sand down the loose fibers, then you are free to use it.
yes, good ideas. That looks fine to keep using. I have a viscaria that was beat up and I sanded some edges (and blade face to be more like zjk). I used shoe glue on the edges to secure the damaged spots since it is like a flexible super glue and seems to have worked well.

You can fix this by gluing a piece of wood in the hole. I would file the edges to make nice smooth hole and fit a piece with the same thickness. There on the edge it doesn’t need to be perfect but the edges should fit…

I sometimes repair blades. I'll fix (using wood glue, pressure, and patience) the salvageable bits, fill in the rest with wood filler and gently sand and polish to get it so smooth you can't feel it when running a finger over it.

Edge tape would not have saved you here, it's too much of a ding. And I'm really surprised the other side is unaffected.

Hot dang! How does the other guy ehrr table look?

That being said, the best you can do is test! Bounce a ball around on the blade near the damage and compare the feeling/sound with the same region on the other side.
If there's any deeper issue (delamination) you can find it by bouncing or knocking. And if there isn't, you still have a usable bat.

Beat me to it. Just soak it in thin liquid epoxy to keep it together and put it under a book to dry
