Honestly, there is too much ego crap in table tennis (i see it in real life too) and people caring way too much about ratings instead of actually enjoying the process about playing the sport and improving. This is why I grew to really dislike TT culture (even though I actually enjoy playing and competing and getting to know people from different walks of life) because it really seems like a group of overly anal people who obsess about winning/losing as if they have nothing better going on in their lives. And also cheaters who actually seem to be sociopathic about it (ie they actually feel proud that they won and didnt actually care how they won). Just real sad.

This sort of culture is also why, a lot of people are more drawn towards other sports like badminton or tennis, which have way better cultures.

In badminton, a way superior player will still be quite happy to partner with a much weaker player and play some fun doubles without caring too much about some 'rating' crap.

For eg if I didnt know how to actually do a BH clear end to end (which is a reasonably asvanced shot) i would simply actually learn how to do it (which would be quite fun) instead of some crap about 'oh it is not required at my level' or 'this shot is just not possible to execute'.

Anyway this is a good wakeup call for me to actually spend way less time on forums because it is really time that i can actually do more productive shit like actually enjoying the sport.
Table tennis is more tricky because of the serve rule is hard to implement and some senior people can not even modify their technique to it. But for all sports, it is the people that make the group, not the sport itself. There are always people with different characters, good, bad, and ugly, in a sport.

That is why it is important to ignore the noise from someone, and enjoy the sport itself. It is not your fault that someone can only serve illegally.

I'm not in either of those. :)

But yeah, you might be right. a bit too low estimate. One issue I have with these ratings is that a bunch of people just keep improving like crazy and aren't probably at their real level. One of my practice partners who is almost 1100 right now was 950~ about 4 months ago!
Archo, reading you describe those videos and watching them unfortunately doesn't give you a good look.

What videos? The ones I posted? What did I describe about them?

after losing to one 1050 TTR youth player in the fifth set (not taking him seriously and already talking to a team mate how we would get a 5-5 draw if we just one those easy games against these lower rated players (and funnily my team mate also loosing to that one) i faced similar rated players today and i think last week was enough serving of humble pie to take this seriously now. We one 10-0 and i 3-0ed both opponents. This is basically the "lowest" level you can play and if you would just look at some of the guys playing topspin against block you would think that they would be decent, but life and especially a match is not somebody playing easy balls for you to destroy. In both of my games the opponents blocked out 95% of my opening loops. in the last game it was so predictable that i would win two points on my serve by opening up and then be comfortable to exercise backhand flicking the opponents serve. It did work our only with 20% success, but it does not really matter because i knew that i would be gaining two points when i served again.

The first opponent that was looking better than in the game was playing an butterfly ovtcharov innerforce ALC with double dignics 05. I told him that these are quite advanced rubbers, but if he got the time to exercise 3 hours a day it could surely work ;)
What did you do differently to go from 2-3 to 3-0? Not the same player, so maybe it doesn't matter, but either way.

The video you posted with the Zach guy has him hitting quite a few semi-professional shots. Why you think someone like that can be 1100 - 1300 is a mystery to me.

Probably not that low like I corrected later, but 1500 maybe. Granted tournament results vs how people look when they're playing isn't really always the same thing.

1100 is silly in hindsight; a lot of my partners are 1100 and they can't do that stuff at all.

So how many players are there registered in Australia? This list looks like a full ranking list and it shows only 400 players!

Combine that with 100 women. Even the strong internationals are also listed. Must be a large submerged iceberg of unregistered players.

Those are probably only the people who have played in National tournaments. Just in the clubs around here there's more than that many people, and we have a small scene compared to other states.

EDIT: Yeah none of my regular partners are on these. Literally none. A bunch of 1300-1500 players I know also aren't in there.

The list is definitely not complete (because I'm not on it ;) ). There's a good 20-30 currently active players at the clubs I know who are in the 1600-1800 range that aren't on the list.

There would be hundreds, probably thousands below that also not included.

I'm assuming it includes only certain events. I recognise some of the names of players on there, and their ratings are a few hundred points higher than the list currently shows. I assume they attended an event a while back and haven't played a TTA event since.

Started this thread to keep the DTT Chitchat free of the extended ratings discussion. I still want to discuss my invisible training somewhere lol - but this rankings discussion is interesting enough for some people to continue it here - cheers.

to make the national rankings list you need its based off State Circuit points im pretty sure, the cut off is also a certain rank, these list don't represent actual volume of Australian players, ive played state circuits but god knows im not on these lists. To register in Aus you also automatically get signed up for rating central so thats a better way to see big lists.

These points are what the rankings are based off of not rating btw
