Sorry for changing the focus of the topic, but this is one of the reasons why I don't think short pimples get enough attention. A close-to-the-table speed-based game is literally what SP's are made for!
I don’t know… Short pips are usually super fast. Gotta use a slow blade then…
Maybe a blocking style… I am definitely not fast enough to counter close in such a speedy game… But for the few who can handle it…

Blocking and top spin drives from close to the table (modern SP's are spinny enough to put some topspin on the ball) would be the strategy with SP's, I think. Hit through the spin that the looper is giving you, and stand your ground close to the table (even though you know that that will result in you not being able to get everything back). Stepping away from the table is obviously not a great idea when using SP's (unless you like to chop with them!), but stepping back from the table is generally a bad strategy in table tennis anyway; yes it gives you a slightly longer reaction time, but in my opinion that is outweighed by the increased amount of ground you now have to cover if the opponent starts moving you around.

What, is Taiwan an autocratic country. I thought it was free… You just can’t dictate this…

Cheers

oh, this was voted in, democratic hey
we not PRC

it was decided that various styles is required and not just 1 dimensional.
the coaches, players or parent can decide who should be learning different styles
and the main perks of these styles is, you get automatic qualifications to all national trials tournaments.

Else, one need to go for a lot of qualifications criteria to play in the national trials.
and if you are good, teams will fight to get you, so you will also have additional perks, ie, money.

in China, it is a totally different story
don't listen, you gone
who was that penholder that was forced to play jpen??

so don't confuse Taiwan with China hey

Just look at how Muramatsu does it.
Takes many chances with his forehand to attack, and punishes high pushes/drop shots from his opponent.
Incredibly save on his chops - fh and bh.

Spinny pushes and a lot of variation with his pips - not as easily exploitable as LPs.

Short pips on BH ( Spectol S1)
Relatively fast blade - Nittaku Goriki Danshi.

In this match he 3-0ed Anton Kallberg.

Play with medium pips on one side and long pips on the other. Blocking and Chopping mastery

I think it's a good thing, although I might be biased as a Chopper. Even from a non-chopper perspective, having a player like that around is good because you get experience playing against them.
No it’s not good. To force children into a mold can never be good.

Maybe try looking at it from a different perspective; perhaps its actually a way of preventing every child from forcing themselves into a attacking two-winged-looping style of play due to peer pressure etc. It's very hard to teach a player to play contrary to their instincts, and there will always be a percentage of players that are instinctively cautious and reserved. If we accept that such players are better candidates for a defensive style of play, then sometimes these sorts of players might need saving from themselves and redirected down a path better suited to their 'natural' style.

Sport is supposed to be something you do for fun. Very few can make a living of it. It should be on the terms of the performer. Of course in completions there must be rules to adhere to, but there is way too much focus on profit…

Yes, but would you agree that a ‘naturally’ defensive player would have more fun playing in that style, rather than trying to play the role of an attacking player and go against their natural instincts? I’ve seen players that train as attackers but then when put in a match situation their natural instinct fights against the style that they’ve adopted. I can’t help think that they’d have much more fun if they full embraced their defensive nature…and would probably be better players as well!

having the mindset of kids = 2 wing attacking = fun is not always correct.
one can also then debate, "forcing kids" to train 20 to 30 hours a week is not fun.

kids I am quoting chose the table tennis school team. for kids that want to seek other forms of fun, they have the rights to choose as they please.

I guess you also get soul parents who only want they kids to be a striker in football, and don't want to play defender or goal keeper. because it is more fun scoring goals.

there needs to be a trust between parent and coach, and if parents can't respect that, then the kids should just stay home and have fun at home. Sports requires commitment and coaches are there in there professional capacity to make those calls of what is suitable for who, since very child is different.

and because Taiwan's junior programs have kids of all styles of play, this allows the kids to develop in all areas.
I see this as a success and TT is a huge market in Taiwan, due to its success in schools.
in fact, a Swede told me, Taiwans school table tennis is probably the best in the world. this Swede was a former national player himself and national coach too was has traveled the world and observes junior programs all over the world.
In fact, I feel this program should be copied throughout the world, especially in Sweden, where TT is disappearing from the junior place - from what I have heard from that expert.

The problem here is the ”quota”. Every kid should decide on their own and nobody forced to do anything.

We care about our kids, and are still successful in many areas. What you suggest is something that big brother does. We do have problems with pushing parents. As far as TT goes the whole sport has been kind of dead, but is growing right now, to fast actually. All this due to Truls international success…

Well based on recent Falck and Yuan Jianan results, not sure. Ito Mima is also having difficulties. I've seen the KKY match vs Shasha in the recent ATTC, you can't do better than that.

have you even seen what big brother does?
coach choosing defender and goalkeeper is big brother?

No wonder many people don't want to be coaches and teachers nowadays
