Probably not. He's been inconsistent and temperamental since forever.
He never seems happy, or loose, or relaxed and that does not help to handle pressure, it just takes too much of a toll.
He's had a good year but I really see that coinciding with FZD and Ma Longs relative decline during the same period along with Europe and rest of world no producing any real fight, where are the players to match prime Waldner, Person, Boll, Samaonov, Ovtcharov???
Boll and Dima are unfortunately past it and there's only Felix in the top 10 from Europe, a definite drop in quality I think. The rest of the world too is full of pretenders at the moment, Calderano, Harimoto, L-Yun Yu and more but nobody stepping out and consistently winning things.
Am I wrong? Maybe, but I basically think WCQ is overrated and not the future of Chinese table tennis. Fan is still a better player and now that he looks fit again I cannot see him losing this Gold tbh

Wasn't Zhang Jike also trained by Xiao Zhan? He got injured because his style was also very physically demanding. Maybe there is a parallel...

the spare paddle didn't affect WCQ
it is the incident that pissed him off that affected him more.
They train with 3 paddles in the training hall.....

never in my life, did I see cameraman invading players corner.
not to mention it was a damn chinese photographer too lol

Hard to say for sure, but it's possible there may not be a superstar in the same vein as ZJK, ML, FZD at least in the near future. Same thing for the women. There may not be someone in the near future on the level of SYS or WMY.

It surely is very competitive but I don't think that there are currently a lot CNT players that can play on the top level. Most second tier CNT members can't consistently win over top international challengers. Further with Ma Long gone, they need someone to fill the gap.

Yeah, it's a very competitive moment right now but it's quite typical to have short careers in CNT. Ms is quite lucky to stay that long.

I have always thought the women's are stronger and will "last a few more years" than men's

But then women's had a team scare earlier in the year.
and then the men's are getting KO more and more regularly of late. the top 3 men to be exact.

People are saying 2028, CNT will likely drop its men's gold
it has been so closed now and FZD having the "bottom heavy" draw making it even more challenging.

FZD with injury, might not be as strong in 4 years time.

So, the talk in Asia is on whether WCQ can be the new captain for 2028 or become LGY version 2
