i think it is very bold to say that such a high level player like andreas should simply "learn the game" (against pips-out or whatever).
Nie does not need to score the points with his LP side, if he simply forces Levenenko to loop a ball too high with it, so that he can finish it with a smash of his regular rubber.
Not talking about the highballs. The were several forehand topspins from NIE that Levenko couldn‘t block.
He didn‘t had his best day and blamed it on the opponen‘s rubber.

If a pro has trouble with these long-pips push blocker players; what fair chance does lil'poor Gozo has?

If fact, this vid makes Gozo-san feels better.

Personality, or even being fiery is one thing; but going out of your way to initiate physical contact and then lying about it - on camera for the whole world to see - is quite another.
Not telling you who to like or dislike or pretending that some people aren't shittier than others, but there can often be a big contrast between a players public image and how they really are behind the scenes. Obviously most of the public won't know this information but I guess my point is that fandom based on what type of a person you think someone is can lead to some funny things, but I guess that is the nature of fandom lol.

There is a good chance that Levenko would have handled Nie's forehand easily if he wasn't scared of and disoriented from the backhand rubber. It is all related. You can't look at these things separately.

Just played against a long pip push-blocker in a local tourney last weekend so the memory is fresh.

Those darn rubber messes the timing, trajectory or arc and distance. So my anticipation is out of sync and footwork also is messed up.

So, it is not easy to play your own game anymore and since TT is a muscle memory game, it suxs big time to meet these unconventional rubber.

It's entirely human. And he might still believe he didn't really initiate the contact. Again, not saying he is a great guy or a terrible guy, just saying that this is common in sports, don't let the PR machines make you think that human nature is glossy because not all players show everything about themselves on tape. These guys all have good and bad sides just like most human beings, you sometimes have to catch them at the right moments to see the full spectrum. The pure angels are not the norm, but the smarter ones just manage themselves better in public consistently and are often given better advice/training.

Players like Levenko, Pistej, Lind, Heming etc. all have their own personalities, table tennis is not played exclusively by angels. There isn't enough money in the sport for professional PR firms to sanitize it, so you will have to bear with these personalities as long as you watch the sport. If and when more money comes into TT, you will see much more coaching of players on how to handle being in the spotlight. That media training is what makes other sports stories less obvious, people are just as weird sometimes worse in many sports we hear little from (golf is one example). Too much money in golf for people to be honest about what happens unless some news company takes the risk and does an article that will like ostracize it, but it thinks the whistleblower status is sufficiently rewarding for that.
In my experience, table tennis seems to attract a lot of 'unique' characters.

I could write a book about some of the nutters I've come across in local league over the years.

Don't some make their own pips over there which would obviously be illegal?

Some research turned up this as well... it's clear he is not popular... Coton did not shake his hand at the end of the match...

what an absolute sore loser coton is. Sure pips are annoying, but be a man about your losses.

thank you, Tony.
i find it odd that most of them are simply too thick rubbers and none actually mention friction.

is that even tested or are the tools simply to sparse so that this will not be tested.

Yeah but what he means is rules related to using boosters and things like rubber friction coefficients. There are rules on these things, but is there a test for them?

all pips rubbers are tested too.
its not on the list as there is no current infraction (failed test) for pips.

Too thick is the most common, due to the amount of glue + boosters.
VOC is probably too freshly glued - we normally glue min evening before, to allow the VOC in the rubber to air out. If you just cut and glue and test, it will likely fail VOC, so you need to air it.

there are pip friction testing devices

Here's the incident I'm referring to, at ~ 1hour 6min mark:

I was there it was pretty much the whole match, as Pistej is almost as old as me and I know him from my competing days. but yeah, Levenko was pushing hard in this match, couldn't hear the provocations from Pistej's part, but there was something going on after that bump ... I think Pistej was quite pissed Levenko didn't get any service violations as he did take quite a lot of time for most of his serves ...
