It looks like TTX is starting to take shape. Today at the Formula 1 Chinese Grandprix TTX had their tables and bats on show with table tennis legend Wang Liqin taking on racing legends Daniel Ricciardo and Fernando Alonso!

What do you think of TTX? It looks like its working getting the sport into the main stream?

They could just as well have put a normal table tennis table without an 'X' in that space and just as much fun would have been had by all involved. I don't think that table tennis really needs rebranding like a new flavour diet version of a soft drink. New sports aren't invented top down. (Unless you're Barry Hearn.)

I prefer Calvinball to TTX.

The background is logical, imho,

Table tennis already became such a skill demanding sport that a pro can 5 - 0 11 - 0 newcomers with his non playing arm tied to the table. [emoji28]

There should be a way for both player to compete in more fairer ground that the edge between pro and newb heavily minimised, and the newb actually have a chance to upset the pros. This what We call "recreational" game [emoji1]

The difference between a pro and an amateur is vast in every sport. Every single one. Why should TT be different? It is not a question of fairness.

I know right. Just in table tennis the difference is more noticeable and vast due to the amount of training and practice it takes. Ma Long would have no trouble whatsoever against say world number 75

The difference is more noticeable to us. Not to the average person. If somebody #1 in the world loses to #75 in the world in any sport it is shocking and most of the time the #1 player has no problem at all. Tennis. Skating. Wrestling. You name it. What do you think Roger Federer would do to any amateur player?

The one exception I can think of would be golf or other sports where shear athleticism is less of a factor.

Wrong premise Baal. [emoji6]

TT is a sport, where the best athlete win.

TTX is a recreational game, where the newb actually have some change to win.

I believe no one here want TT to become recreational game. They shall grow horns. [emoji28][emoji48]

I suppose. I just don't see how TTX can do much for our sport except divert resources that could be used more productively. But maybe I just lack vision or something.
