(Agreed. Even losing to unknown players.)
So what did Ma Long say about Harimoto playing Sidorenko? Curious....

On a more serious note, it is sad that even with all the improved footwork and forehand that Harimoto has that he still doesn't want to win the games by going head to head from the start and keeps looking for cheap tricks to win points. He plays to the ranking of the opponent (though surely, the 3-0 victory by Sidorenko over Duda should have tipped him off)?

Hats off to Sidorenko. He turned Harimoto into a ball boy on many points.

No, 6 year olds don't argue about these things. I have 6 year old kids and they don't understand angles and degrees, becau they are only 6 years old.

If you feel the current system is good, then good for you.
I think it's shit and I also think you don't know anything about measurement.
Saying that 0.0333% deviation makes something illegal to the cost of a point in a first to 11 points match is, absolutely stupid.
Really? I guess Nextlevel should step in here to ban someone talking like a 6 years old full of ego. Trust me, most people here understand math much better than you. And most importantly understand how this world works without thinking and talking like a 6 six years old and feeling that he is the only smart one.

Sure but 30.04° should be rounded to 30° and deemed fine.
Players are practicing to stay with the tolerance but nobody is able to measure 0.04°.
To fail by that much is making a farce of things.
It should really be measured to the nearest degree only.
I agree.

Lots of good points about toss angles in this thread, from what it looks like polar opposite opinions.

I guess all of us want to see great, competitive table tennis. We also want it to be fair. The players certainly want it to be fair, and umpires calling out these things in an unfair way is the big problem.

I am sure pretty soon this will be automated and all points
Won on serves will
Be automatically checked for toss angle. Makes sense if they can do that automatically. In soccer all goals scored is checked for offside.

The thing is that the umpires are not calling it in an unfair way. In fact Bobrow pointed out that umpires have been told to call whenever in doubt because TTR exists. And I remind people again and again, 20 degrees is not vertical, 28 degress is not vertical, 29 degress is not vertical, they are just afforded the tolerance. So there is no need to build in slack into a 30.04 degree measurement. Fine, if you don't want to use that level of precision for optical reasons, I get it. But what unfortunately is happening is that people are continually misrepresenting what a 30.04 means - the bottom line is you passed or failed the tolerance. You were already given 10 degrees that you probably shouldn't have gotten. Rounding optics misrepresents the issue. There is no need to round since you were already afforded more than enough margin. The only reasonable justification for rounding is measurement unreliability and that is not what is being claimed. Just optics.

Just last week Chinese fans are observing the dragon boat festival and had no interest with the underachievers from world champs and claiming the lost was because the cnt has no interest in star contenders outside of China.

I believe the latest update is that they have no interest in Smash in the USA too.

The excuses are slowly coming out 😂😂

A Chinese influencer nailed it in his projection in mid-May for the second half of 2026, how the CNT will forgo some tournaments, namely 1 GS and as many CS as necessary. The focus will be on bringing the young guns up to speed while the core players will use a much-needed break.

The problem is cost and game flow. They can't make the measurement available at everyone's practice. So that makes it hard to put into the game at the scale you are thinking of, IMHO.

The serve rules as they currently stand are stupidly inane. Rules say vertical toss, TTR gives you 30 DEGREES of freedom. Rules say arm and all obstructions must be removed immediately, that ball passing out of view at any moment of the serve is illegal, TTR only looks for if the moment of contact (from its viewpoint) was visible. How are we meant to adjudicate any of this at the amateur level??? We don't have TTR--the rules need to be clear and unobtrusive.

It's all silly but I guess they just don't have any good ideas on how to fix it. Pros looking for an edge will continue to try and cheat to the greatest degree possible and us amateurs will just be left scratching our heads because we can't tell our opponent their serve was 31 degrees instead of 30.
