Talent is something you just have, its not something you pass on to your kids.

Talent is something that comes from hours and hours of practice. To people who don't see these hours and hours of practice then this probably looks like a natural ability. Take this practice away and any of the top players would just be a normal person doing a normal job.

I totally agree with you there,

Ive had this debate so many times with my firends ect...

There is talent in everyone and more in some... but if you don't train from a young age and adapt a style that suits you and your playing style then you will improve leaps and bounds and people may class you as a talented player. Whereas if this player didnt start at a young age, started at 16 with not correct coaching he may be deemed as un talented.

I believe so much of improvement is to do with your surroundings...

As they say, 'You are your surroundings' :D

So you are agreeing with me! I know talent has to be develloped. But the person I answered to said that the son of joo se huyk would be a great player too which is something nobody knows. If he has talent and gets decent training and coaching like Dan said then he might be a good player.

But no way that every kid of a top player has as much talent as their parents thats for sure.

The fact that your parent is good at something, while doesn't necessarily mean you will be, does help though.

Talent is something partially developed, and it requires a lot of hard work to realize that talent, but we can't ignore the fact that genetics play a crucial role also. A child who's parent is good at something, probably at the very least has a better chance at being good at it also, than just some other random person. For table tennis, the genetics might not play as big of a role as it would in say basketball, but it still probably effects your coordination, movement speed, reaction rate. Plus, if your dad is a high level pro, that means he has a wealth of experience and knowledge, which if he imparts that to his child, that child definitely has a potentially huge advantage.

Of the young european players, the one that I think has the best chance to make it to the top level and become the next Boll is that Alexander Shibaev he is the only one who I see has the potential to become an elite player. His looping from both sides is really good, and he gets a lot more spin on them than most European players. Plus he has the body advantages of being taller than the average player and not being that much slower despite the greater height, has longer arms, thus more reach and leverage etc. If he continues improving, he will be hard to beat. He had a decent game against Ma Lin a while back, lost to Octarchov in the European Stars tournament, despite having a way better loop, and the last match I saw of him, he crushed Schlager. So I definitely think if he continues to improve and get tip top training, he has the potential to be on par with the Chinese.

Couldn't agree more. He's shown quite a bit of potential. Anyways, another player who shld make it to the top 10 is Koki Niwa. Great BH. Though he is a bit small i must say.

Yeah, Niwa Koki has a good feel for the game, but unless he grows taller and stronger, he is going to hit a wall, and other players will just by pass him.

Zhou Yu is going to be really good because he also has the size advantage. He just got onto the A team in China, so when you combine his body advantages and amazing training, it will be pretty hard for him not to be good. He already has an insane backhand. And in the recent WTTC trials in China he beat Ma Lin 3-0

Koki Niwa is tremendous, seen him at the English open in late 2009,amazing game, takes the ball so early, never flustered,a joy to watch win or lose. Could challenge chinese, needs to become more athletic but he is young and has a while to reach physical maturity..Looking forward to watching the Japanese in Rotterdam...

What makes you think if you are the son of a good player that you will become a good player yourself? Talent is something you just have, its not something you pass on to your kids.

And I agree with scylla that shibaev will become a great player, not sure if he will beat the chinese but he will get pretty good.

I don't agree with you at all. Talent is not something you just have? If that were true all the best Table Tennis players wouldn't have to practice at all....simply because they have the skill. Yes, sometimes people are simply born with some talent...but they will be horrible at the sport unless they practice day in and day out. So its not just because hes the son of a great player....its because his father can teach him all he knows at an young age...giving him a head start. I use to suck completely at Table Tennis....now I'm a decent player...but thats only because I practiced every day...and watched Table Tennis videos everyday. I have no natural talent for Table Tennis at all lol

I think a good young player from europe is Daniel Kosiba. IF he carries on improving at the rate he has been then he could be very good.

Good call Lloyd Kosiba is promising. I think upcoming and well on his way to the top is Lee Sang Su and Shibaev ain't half bad either
