Tianrui Zhang lost to Andrew Cao just a round after beating Ma Jinbao. This is similar to what happened at the LA Open a few months ago, where he lost right after beating Koki Niwa.
I suspect Ma Jinbao doesn’t have much experience playing in Vegas. Still struggling to explain his form in the absence of data....

I'm surprised Hong Kong's Zhu Chengzhu is not playing WS. She would have a pretty good chance of winning. She played well at the XTWC with wins over Linda Bergstrom and Lea Rakovac (very strong Croatian player).
Seeing Yan Guo who won last year play again this year, the answer is obvious even if you think Zhu could beat the MLTT players.

I looked her up on ITTF/WTT. Since there's multiple Guo Yans, I believe she is listed as Guo Yan (1997). She won 2018 Nigeria Open (both WS and U21). And I could have sworn, I saw her on some video a long time ago beating CXT. And I remember thinking to myself wow...she's really good! I wish I saw more of her on the ITTF tour! Anyways, I believe this is her back in 2018. Guess who her opponent was :) ? If there's someone on the forum from HITTA, please confirm:

Has Guo Yan been coaching at HITTA? Wang Hui seems to be able to get some good players from CNT to coach for him.

Saw this Facebook post regarding this year's US Open win:

Coaching Guo Yan, the back-to-back US Open Champion, during this year’s US Open Table Tennis Championships was truly special.
Her run was dominant: 🏓 QF: 4–0 vs Lily Zhang 🏓 SF: 4–0 vs Amy Wang 🏓 Final: 4–1 vs Chen Sun
But beyond the scores — her calm mindset, humility, and clarity under pressure stood out. Even at the top, she accepted inputs with openness and trust, moving comfortably match to match.
This was my first time watching her play live, and her first time working with me — yet the connection felt natural. A true professional and an absolute pleasure to watch.
She’s also been in outstanding form recently in the China Super League, including a win over Olympic Champion Chen Meng.
Thank you Houston International Table Tennis Academy (HITTA) for trusting me with this responsibility, and thank you Yan for the respect and positivity throughout the event.
Moments like these remind me why I love table tennis

watching Lily and Amy defeats once again proving the BH dominant game in women’s style. their FH and BH( mostly drives) won’t do much damage when the opponent can defend and return everything.
Yan strategy and spin variations are excellent esp the elbow setup. her game reminds me of Chen Meng and Chen Xingtong.

it is rare to see this kind of level here in the US (i was hesitant to come to US open this year but i am glad i did)
