Hi,

i wanted to ask you guys if it makes sense to use knee sleeves. I've seen it with basketball and volleyball players, that some of them using knee sleeves to prevent injuries, enhance performance and recover quicker. Could table tennis player also benefit from them?

I use knee sleeves. It probably provides a bit of extra stability

I have had ACL reconstruction & meniscus repair (2001) and a couple followup surgeries... I religiously use an open patella sleeve.

It does not provide any support or give any performance advantage. What is does do, is help with any minor inflammation issues... In 2018 I reinjured the repaired knee and had to take a couple months off from TT. When I came back the sleeve was helpful in moderating the inflammation.

The other advantage is the that the sleeve is a constant reminder to stay low to the table and knees bent. You are much less likely to injury the knee when it is in some degree of flexion and not extension.

*edit: I should also add that an open patella sleeve may aid in minor patella tracking issues.

I also use them when I know I'll be playing a lot. As one poster said, to avoid inflammation

IMO I don't think it's a good idea unless you have an injury. It's like using a leg crutch if you don't have a broken leg. Your body will atrophy since it's not being stressed so it doesn't need to strengthen that area. I have knee problems but I only use the brace if I haven't been doing regular workouts that strengthens the knee. Otherwise i try not to use it so my body can support on it's own.
