What blade should I get?

Hey guys,

I'm currently using the DHS Hao with Hurricane 2 on the FH and Skyline BH. It's worked fine for me at the moment but I feel like I'm lacking the powerful spin that some rubbers/blade combination can impart.

I want to replace my blade, and, at the same time, replace the rubbers. Budget is total cost less than $350.

Thanks!

P.S I'm a penhold player

haha, I could think of some spinny combos for under $40, (prolly $60 AU where you are at) (http://tabletennisshop.com.au or http://www.affordablett.com.au/shop/) but they won't be winning EJ's top choice as they are not expensive at all.

Try KTL Instinct + with Geospin tacky and a control rubber like Cream MRS and spend the rest on lessons.

I would go with the stiga clipper wood, you cant go wrong with this blade if you are an attacker. Its on the hard side but it has very good dwell if you look at the hardness. And for the rubbers you shouldnt use a dhs rubber on the backhand. you can but i woudnt reccomend it.

If youre an agressive attacker you can take Yasaka Rakza 7, maybe the soft version for backhand.
If youre more of a looper then you will like Andro Hexer.

Or you can just jump straight into the tenergys but they are expensive and they take some time to adapt because of the high throw angle

Chinese rubbers are not the perfect backhand rubbers.they dont have a lot of 'forgiveness' that many a time a bh needs.
But if you are used to them, then its not a problem.
Try tenergy 80 FX for your forehand.
Very good review of them by Tom and Dan from TTDaily.

Is there a substantial difference between the 05. 25 and 80 variants? If so, what?

The Tenergy 05 has a medium-hard to hard sponge and has a high throw angle and is good for all styles of play and you can use it cloase and away from the table.
Tenergy 64 has less spin than Tenergy 05 but is faster and softer so its more for poeple who like to stay a little bit away from the table.
The Tenergy 80 has a sponge hardness between the 05 and 64 and is Faster than the 05 and has more spin than the 64 I heard some people say that it even has more spin than the 05.
The Tenergy 25 has a Slightly harder sponge than the 05 but has a lower throwangle and is better for close to the table play.

They all have the same sponge hardness, difference is in topsheet hardness and pimple structure

Thanks guys for the suggestions, in the end I decided to follow my coach and got:

DHS Hurricane Hao III - Blade

Thinking of getting:

Andro Rasant - FH Rubber or maybe Butterfly Tenergy? (never tried)

DHS Hurricane 3 Neo - BH Rubber

Any suggestions/improvements on my potential rubber choice?

Do you mean your coach is using Hao 3 so you like to follow him? If so you must have hit with and like it. What rubber is he using? I find this blade is so weird that it is my least favourite among all popular cpen.

I'm currently using dhs hurricane Hao, albeit a cheaper one and it's working fine for me. Coach plays with hurricane long shakehand but that was just his recommendation to me

I see. I have all DHS Hao and some Ma Lin and Xu Xin's cpen blades. The structure of HH3 is quite unique and the feel is hard for me to descript. I have tried a few Chinese rubbers like Tin Arc 3 and TG3 on it and none seems to fit well. Total weight over 190g but feels much more than that. Bouncy Tensor or Tenergy may give more life to it. If I have to pick I will go T64 both sides. BTW DHS has released the PG13 which is identical to HH3 except the 1/5 price tag.

By 'none seems to fit well' what problems did you stumble upon?

I've tried the Rosewood too but i felt that it was too fast :(
