More catapult means faster on soft/normal shots but starts to bottom out on harder shots because it has softer sponge, glayzer is faster on harder shots because harder sponge so it bottoms out harder, but slower on soft shots.
You answered your own question, but this is exactly it. People feel Glayzer is “dead”, because Rozena and most other ESN rubbers are bouncier/have more catapult. But even BTY specs say Rozena is faster & Glayzer has more spin, but manufacturers specs can’t always be trusted.

So glazer should be better for beginners than dozens because less catapult, so that beginners learn to use their own power?

Not sure if that’s the case since with a harder sponge it will be harder for beginners to activate it, but I have the same thought as you. Rozena is easier to play for the general public since it’s softer and more tolerant to spin. It’s still #1 in Japan for that reason. Kids and hobby players love it.

That's my perspective, and it's the perspective of a lot of Chinese coaches who typically recommend that beginners use hard or medium-hard rubber without catapult. But you need proper technique and strength (getting power from the legs, using the whole body, engaging the sponge, etc) in order to use harder dead rubber. The logic behind this perspective is that you shouldn't learn something unless you learn it properly, and hard dead rubber forces you to learn properly.

Some people think that it's better to learn with a catapulting rubber, like Rozena. These rubbers are easier to use for beginners and for people who don't have a lot of strength (children in particular). The soft sponge is more forgiving of poor aim, and the catapult effect compensates for lack of strength/technique. The logic here is that beginners can learn how to play fast spinny shots without having perfect technique. In my opinion, this is putting the cart before the horse, but people disagree about this.

I think it's fine for people to play slowly when they are still learning -- but maybe if everyone else has catapult rubber, this puts you at a disadvantage. Of course, once you become intermediate/advanced, there may be tactical/strategic reasons to use rubbers like Rozena. But I think it's a bad idea for beginners.

I add something else, I think rubbers also depends on the blade you use. For example, the dhs 301 been a firmer blade it was less catapult with Rozena, however with my nittaku acoustic inner, been a softer wood it was to catapulty , so not linear in play. So far less control. Lot less gears.

However when I changed it to Razka 7 a firmer rubber , slightly slower rubber but far more control, far less catapult.

Also just bought Razka x, only 5 minute hit so far. I say slightly faster than Rozena and better control too. Matching rubber with blade is important and also affects the control aspect too.

Also personal preference and perspective plays a big role. I have the exact opposite feeling between R7 and Rozena that you have. I replace R7 with G1 & Rozena on my Acoustic, because I found it too bouncy.

This is why it’s important to try equipment for yourself. What works for one may not work for you, but understanding their playing characteristics can guide you in the right direction to know if it suits you.

If you're feeling like playing it safe, Rakza 7 is also a good option -- it can take you to a reasonably high skill level as well.

@greenbeanmachine as you also recommended I finally decided to take little steps and I took 2 Rakza 7 2mn for FH and BH !
and this time I prefer to have the same rubber on FH and BH, I have the impression that help focusing on just the stroke and movement and also to have better reference

Thank you for all the recommendations!

I like the idea of more precision but at 47 yo I prefer to maintain some tolerance to not so perfect movements and have more rally and fun

In any case I will certainly upgrade to Rakza X as next rubber after the 7 and then probably G1

I will update next year when I have had some sessions on them

Thanks again and Merry Christmas!

If you look at Butterfly, as a beginner get sriver all others will just hold you back, a waste of money. When you feel confident upgrade…

I don't think butterfly is a waste of money, just more expensive than some other brands. Many top players use butterfly.
He’s saying it’s a waste of money because it will hold you back depending on your level if you can’t fully utilize it. Plenty of other rubbers just as good for the same price or cheaper. Is what he meant. Esp if you’re trying to play with an expensive rubber that’s too fast for you.

Okay, thanks for the clarification, that makes sense😊
