What can Butterfly Serial Numbers do?

I’m currently in China, my club has told me whenever I buy a butterfly product blades/rubber and want to share it or make a video to blur or scratch the serial number from the blade/rubber. On taobao they even sell already serial number scratched for a cheaper price than the un-scratched.

what can some letters and numbers harm? Prevent counterfeit? Tradition?

nobody I know does this in any other countries but only china i guess.

Those are two different things. Firstly, the one that you said is un-scratched is one that has essentially been checked by the gov and been verified and when you scratch it, you can go and verify the blade on the gov website or something. I'm not too sure about the ones that are scratched tho it sounds like it might just be the serial no. I usually don't use TaoBao for blades and stuff anyways. I suggest using JingDong which is more reliable but you still have to watch out for counterfeits.

For Butterfly products distributed through official channels in China, the serial number can be checked for a maximum of 3 times before they display a warning message telling you about the potential of a knock-off. No one wants to feed the Shanzhai with fresh serial numbers. And some people may choose to sell their blades/rubbers later on and the 2nd or even 3rd unused time will come in handful.

For retail products with the serial number scratched that are sold at a lower price, that is done by the retailers to protect themselves as Butterfly China has a minimum pricing policy and the serial number can be used to track them down.

Butterfly office in China has its own blade SN verification. The rest of the world - no.
You can email Butterfly Europe ( [email protected]) to request a check. They will then check with Japanese head office to confirm the authentication if they can't do it directly on there side.

I've bought mine from official BTY store so just wanted to check for fun and gave up.

Thanks for the reply guys, so most retailers just buy blades or rubber from Japan and sell them below Chinese version price, so the cheapest way to buy BTY products are from the home country? Most product description says that the serial number can’t be checked at the Japanese version, I mainly trust by reputation lol, atleast have 4,6 minimum.
