Hi, to all!

I was wondering what blades and rubbers do chinese children start playing and training before they end up with fast blades and fast spiny rubbers as adults?

Thanks

I've just come back from China, and when I took my son to train I looked at all the bats available at the club for kids.

A lot of cheap Palio blades (all wood, some 5 some 7 ply), with H3 and / or CJ8000.
Some Stiga blades (a few Off NCT, some hardwood) with similar rubbers and Bomb tensors
Basically cheap stuff, but quite good for kids, with basic speed, lots of control, and a bit tacky.

For the better players (still kids), H3 FH and tensor BH (sometimes some old tenergies, probably the coaches' old ones) on faster blades, such as clipper, Stiga hardwood (ebenholtz etc), or BTY ALC (a lot of ZJK dragon), which I found surprising considering the price of the blade. But these are the facts.

Finally, coaches mostly play with BTY ALC (many many Viscaria), boosted (sometimes speed glued) H3 on FH, and tensor on BH (sometimes T64, but also many Desto F2, Vega Asia...)

When coaching (mostly multiball), coaches pick up any bat, often with rubber on a single side (in that particular club, no penhold coach when I went, certainly no penhold kids).

IMHO, Mizutani does win a lot of points while staying close to the table, especially against equally good opponents but we see him lobbing so much because his defence is the best in the world. He just keeps a point alive that most players would have already lost. Against Zhang Jike for example in the WTTC, he kept himself close to the table for the first 4 sets but his close to the table game is not as good as Zhang Jike's.

Here's another example of a match against Ovtcharov. He's able to control the table against him and mostly stays there.
