Why do you play Table Tennis?

says Mr. super ZLC
2,5 yrs ago I found another job. Many played tabletennis during lunch. So I tried too. I couldn’t play normally. I played so badly no one wanted to play against me.
Half a year later there was a table tennis try out at a club in my hometown. I went there and joined the club and learned to love it.

I’ve been playing there for 1,5 years now.
Made some progress but now my colleagues don’t want to play with me because most of them can’t win.
🤔
Our club does a lot of activities for young children. Clinics for kids, for schools, visiting schools etc. We’ve been growing as a club and after corona ended we needed the new members. I really love to help the club and in the not long ago I’ve become member of the board.

As a player I’ve still have a lot to learn and it’s a sport where you even can enjoy the play of your opponent when he scores a fabulous point. Where do you find that?
wow the clubs im hearing about out here seem so nice and friendly. I personally find clubs intimidating and scarry. The average clup members here are usually on provincial team well the ones I end up meeting

Iv been on this forum for about a month or more and I really find the people here interesting and fun to interact with.

I play table tennis as a getaway. I play to take my anger or sorrow out. It`s like my way of saying that I won't lose motivation. My friends and family don't understand why I like this sport and don't want me to play it so often. I always tell them, "It just makes me happy" and that's why I play.

That's enough for me. I wanted to ask the people of this forum, you guys, why you play, what got you into the sport, and mainly, how you feel while playing table tennis.

I would appreciate if you guys answered these questions. I hope I get to know more people in this forum.

I like the rhythm and feeling of the topspin rallies. I think my favorite shot is the bh block, it just feels good to me.

Table Tennis is so important to me my life wouldn't be the same without it!! When I hit a good shot that I've been practicing it's a beautiful thing !!! I'm told everyone week by my club mates that I'm improving all the time!!! Plus I have been training my girlfriend and she has improved so much and it's lovely that we share our passion together!!! I'm 58 and my girlfriend is 67 and we love table tennis and both want to keep improving ❤️‍🩹 ❤️‍🩹

Badminton a bit more fun because there are more players around and none of the stupid illegal serve + battle of the most confusing pips/anti crap that happens in TT.

But TT is more interesting with the spin variations (although badminton has spin nets too it is not anywhere close).

Tbh, now after using anti, TT feels very enjoyable to play now because receiving serves is now a joy (probably damn frustrating for my opponents LOL).

Maybe because it is played indoors. yk like some other sports like squash and basketball. I also do work really hard to improve. I consistently play and do footwork training as often as I can.

i am starting to feel a bit of pain on my right knee, got any tips?
1. If your income is not dependent on TT, play less, let your body heal / rest before exertion.
2. Do knee strengthening exercise regularly whether in gym or at home using calisthenics. You can youtube for lessons.
3. Reduce weight if applicable.

Choose any option or multiple options from above.

I was playing table tennis ass a kid cause i was in a table tennis family, everyone plays it, then i stop for 20years playing other sports such as tennis or basketball, then a year ago (30y) i decided to do sport again cause i hadnt do any sport in many year, so i had to think of a sport where i can be competitive starting so late and that can be played even past 60 70, table tennis was the answer, got so much fun since then. I regret that i stopped in my young years

I never played table tennis as a kid, or even as a young adult. I did not know that sport, at all.

I got a kid, and when he was five we were living near a soccer club, and a table tennis club. I did not want him to play soccer, because the soccer club was too much on the 'dark' side ( arrogant, potty mouth even at a very young age), so he ended up at the 'baby ping' training session.
He liked it and continued to the kid session the years after, until the covid came. For me it was still a dumb "playing with a little ball" sport, but as long as the kid did some physical activity and enjoyed it, it was great.

During the covid we moved to the countryside, and to a little local club, with only a few kids playing. Mine was the only one serious, and after one year the coach recommended him starting individual local league, as a test. Surprisingly, he did not end up being the last, and he enjoyed it. Because I could see how competitive the ping is, and that competition is a healthy way of helping a kid growing up and getting mentally stronger, I paid for individual training sessions, and I started to drive the kid and his coach at multiple events (individual and adult team tournaments).

And slowly, I discovered that table tennis is not a dumb little white ball sport, but there is tactics, strategy, it makes you move a lot and it's fun. And I need to work-out for my health (weight management, massive arthritis).

So I started to play last September. It's complicated because, I'm a total beginner, with no special "gift" ( talent, natural way of playing), and in addition I'm a woman. I'm struggling finding training partners. The only thing I have, I'm stubborn, so I know I will improve.

Once a week, I pay a private session with a coach. And since once I got too frustrated, went to the club for nothing (nobody wanting to train with me), I bought a meta quest with ElevenVR, and it's actually great to train gesture when you are a beginner. Now I can do short pushes!
