I wonder what's the thought process behind withdrawing the main CNT women for Star Contender but keeping the main CNT men. WMY makes sense since her physique has never proven to be sustainable for extended periods after Xiao Zhan, but surely WYD (and maybe even CXT) could still prove competitive for this tournament. Meanwhile, a clearly-injured (and likely psychologically-scarred) LSD might struggle... ?

The women are comfortably ranked, got what thry needed and are not in crisis. They do have some fixes to work on given what Han and Zhu did. The men are in a ratings/rankings crisis for sure and need more information on what to work on.

Lin Shidong has put in a lot of training by his own admission. However his match form says he is having trouble expressing it ‐ it might be injury but i think he is also not as sharp close to the table as his foreign peers and I don'tthink his ball quality id making them back off. Liang is match rusty and the draw didn't give him the required exposure. Xiang Peng needs to do better.

I suspect if the men had done better they would have pulled out. The women did relatively well, I suspect no one lost sleep over losses to Han Ying ans Zhu Yuling. It just gives them the information they need to make the team greater. The men it is different. They lost to top opponents except Liang and it isn't entirely clear what the issues are.

Harimoto is falling into the same.trap as Nagasaki now, not realizing that his quality is going to get borrowed by the opponent and going off balance is not the way. Needs to sequence multiple shots.

The statements while all likely true, have the limitation of turning one match result into a tight pecking order, when in reality, the match was so close I wouldn't have blinked if the result were reversed.

Nagasaki was here as a last-minute sub and reaching the QF on such a short notice is commendable, having done so by defeating her own teammate (proving the previous 3 wins, 2 domestic and 1 international, were no fluke) and fending off an anti player (showcasing the level gap after giving up the initial lead).

Is there a point you are trying to make citing Zhu Yuling's results from when we now know she had health issues and couldn't play WTTC 2019? And did you watch the Kuai Man -Nagasaki match and the harimoto vs Felix match which the first quote refers to which you now seem to be taking out of context?

I have stated that while Zhu might be a stronger player than Chen, the results of the CNT over the past years have shown that the top women (and men) have the ability to beat each other depending on the weather, even with the pecking order. A deuce in the 6th loss with most games being tight being treated as strong evidence of Zhu's superiority is a good narrative but I would caution one against it. She could just have well lost the match I watched. But I am okay if others feel differently. Its very different though if thry have played three times and Zhu has won all three.

LYJ and JWJ are probably the 2 players I would have never expect to be playing the finals for this event. They prove me wrong even though before this event their recent performances have not been good.

I mean if we decide that after some bad games that players should retire or quit the national team, they would not have made the finals…..

It just shows that the top 10 is very close in standard. Any bad or good days can influence the results between them. LSD and WCQ and Hugo could be the Top 3 but they are not as dominate as when ML, FZD or XX was in the top 3. Maybe that’s what makes these tournaments more interesting now.

On the women’s side, CXT is now #3, followed by Kuai Man and ZYL. Han Ying moved up 4 spots to #18
