while staying on, he has a good perks as a player.
My guess is, stay on as long as possible

he said he was retiring after Rio
I will stay on, if I am still fit enough to travel and have that perks.
Maybe just reduce competition and play in the manditories only and keep world ranking above 50 or not weaker than no 3 in TPE
So rumours has it, this is Chuang last event.
He will withdraw from China Smash

Apparently he hasn’t been training at all since Paris.
And he flew to Macao short notice and the first training was at Macao.
He did block balls for Kao and Dima in bundesliga, but that was it.

He does seem drained.
Will see what happens

Difficult when you're a full time student at a demanding university.
Yeah, then the point of travelling to Macao is what exactly? Why not just focus on her studies then?

I don't know all the constraints they face, but if she can travel to Macao, then we can't say she doesn't have the time to prepare as an excuse given that the requirement for attending is being one of the best professional table tennis professionals in the world with a commitment to winning (though one could argue that continents outside Asia and Europe deserve an asterisk).

They also went through a whole Olympic cycle, are they going to seriously just hope they never face choppers and have that as their strategy?

Because given the choice to use your unexcused absences from class on going to WTT Macao or going to 888 to train with choppers, she probably chose the tournament experience, but I can't speak for her.

You'd be surprised how little the commitment to winning means to a lot of pros, especially those from countries where they as the top players have achieved their dreams already but there is nobody to take the throne from them...

All well and good, but no unique reason for us as fans to accept school as an excuse. Like I said, there was a whole summer to prepare for the Olympics. A lot of current form is just the leftover of what was done for that.

Looks like the DHS table is pretty much standard issue for the big events but what about the balls ?
Watching so many matches in the last few days and I am sure that I have never seen so many players ending up hitting over the top of the ball. This happens often after a long push but in many other situations too. Is that ""Friendly ball"" not jumping up high enough ????????

I was taken aback. Her Cantonese sounds even more 地道 than that of FZD, LGY, ZQH. In terms of flow, her English is not far from that of Zheng Qinwen.

Only get to know recently that ZYL has been living in Zhuhai, Guangdong for many years when she was young. For English she might have had chances to practice with native speakers.

I almost broke into tears when seeing her coming back from cancer and enjoying playing TT!

As the popular proverb among Chinese martial artists says:
一日不練,自己知道;
兩日不練,對手知道;
One day no practice, yourself knows;
Two days no practice, opponent knows;
Three days no practice, spectator knows.

Given how long it took JTTA to take defenders seriously and it still ended in a disaster for Rio 2016, there is a long road ahead for USATT.

Maybe that's why she picked Macau, which is just south of Zhuhai. For those interested, an article from 2016 has more on her background.

(Zhuhai girl Zhu Yuling: Winning gold is a must when I go on stage)
http://gd.sina.com.cn/zh/news/2016-08-09/city-zh-ifxutfpc4839699.shtml

Tasei instead of Dong Qiwen at the bench. Performance appraisal in jeopardy after 0 medals at Paris 2024?

Better odds than against others.

WTT CS Macao 2023 R32 Harimoto 3-2 LSD
WTT CT Zagreb 2022 R32 Harimoto 3-2 LSD

From now on, I'll refer to LSD as Hifumi, after 阿部一二三/ABE Hifumi.
