Oh, I'm pleasantly surprised to see Mao Takamori qualified to the main draw. I thought she was out after seeing her lose to Yang Huize. Also, nice dramatic comeback by Yuhi Sakai down 2-9 in the decider to win it 13-11 over France's Romain Ruiz.

Mao was likely a lucky loser. When the qualifying draw is not full or someone withdraws, that can happen.

When zeio's prophecies make you ambivalent about a player you usually enjoy watching. Kihara is struggling with Batta. Remind me again why it is a gimme that Kihara will beat Winter?
Oh, my. When WMY struggled against Batra at KSA GS 2024, did you say the same thing?

Batra got only 1 game before this. Any normal human being would conclude that something is wrong with Kihara after looking up her recent stats. She hasn't won a single match in 4 tournaments in 2026, this one included.

Kihara and Hirano even went out for dinner the previous night.

Two thoughts in my head. Lin Shidong plays doubles only, what is the background to that? And my all time favorit doubles pair did not take the opportunity to play together again, kind of sad…Hitomi, Honoka.
I was not expecting him to play at this event due to injury. Never expected him to play MD though. Maybe try to have a bit of game time before trying Singles for the next event.

Of course something is wrong with Kihara. But that still doesnt mean that Winter will struggle with her. Diaz is also playing better so I don't know if that is a confirmation of anything. but my point here is that the idea that Winter will lose to anyone from Japan isn't supported if they can struggle with Batra.

I am not the one who has irrationally still acted like Winter is purely lucky.

Nagasaki just lost to a chopper. I think I just have to excuse the Japanese girls when they play in China and lose to combination players. Winter is so unlucky that she has to play these girls elsewhere.
