WTT Finals Fukuoka 2024, 11/20-24

so, i guess we are done for now, of the same players playing the same players every week, or second week, at a different venue for the whole year.
Yes that's what I wrote a few weeks ago too. It's all getting a bit too much and too boring for me although now Darko was in the last 4 for once.

He completely got outplayed! !!
Yes, after winning against LSD I thought to myself : Great , Tomo is back - now I have to feel sorry for him again.
Most of the match he really just froze, like a little bunny rabbit caught in the head lights.

Please bring on the sport psychologist or really any bloody psychologist, help the boy please. 😰

Very impressive week for Chen Xingtong. She takes out SYS. Beats Hirano 3-0 who she had lost to at the ATTC (which in her defense she got pulled in at the last minute due to WMY's family issue). Beats rival, WYD, 4-0. And makes WMY go the distance of 7 games in the finals. It's a good start for her in making her case for LA2028.
I’m more impressed the fact that CXT does not sweat, hardly! lol

https://world-tt-s.com/news/page_1584.html

Coach Jean-Rene Mounie had this to say after the loss at WTT Fukuoka:

"Hugo took a break after the Paris Olympics, but he hasn't recovered mentally. The damage from the Olympics doesn't seem to have restored his motivation. We'll just have to wait and see."

Can't blame him now, I blame him at the Olympics lol, but it is partly Mounier's fault for not calling timeouts at the right time. All the opponents will get older and stronger. Hugo most likely missed his best chance.

I still can't understand how sato and Hashimoto won the women's double. I thought choppers were really easy to defeat now
Not sure where you got that idea. Hashimoto beat both SYB and Miwa in singles recently. And both Hashimoto and Sato are the best of the best choppers. Both have improved their attacking capabilities and any weak shot gets punished. Their opponents both have to be good at driving the ball. Yokoi is not that good against choppers. You cannot have any let down as Sato/Hashimoto have been playing together for several years and know and trust each other to make unbelievable plays. WD at the All Japan in January 2025 is going to be interesting. Double Miyu won this year, but I think Sato/Hashimoto are the favorite for 2025 All Japan WD.

there's a really good combo if hayata and miwa played together in wd

says Miwa does it!

On top of that I think that Hashimoto has a pretty wide portfolio of shots. I love how she adds sidespin to her chops. And how she calculates/feels it from meters behind the table is beyond me.

https://www.miguvideo.com/p/live/120000531385

Gotta get this out of the way. Migu Video ran a post-tournament analysis at the end of the final day, with Deng Yaping, Zhou Yu, media worker Chang Xinyu and host/media worker Zhou Guanda (well-trained in table tennis as a kid).

Starting at 1:02:26, co-host/media worker Peng You asked the guests to rank the 6 foreign teams/players per gender in terms of "combat strength".

When asked, Deng Yaping said Miwa is a greater threat than even Ito was to the CNT.

A follow-up article. Calderano wished he had taken the TO in G1 of the MS SF at Paris 2024.

https://world-tt-s.com/news/page_1589.html
