I got into table tennis during 2020 and as a melbourne resident i missed out on the 2019 ITTF Aussie open in melbourne. I was watching the patrick franziska xu xin semifinal thriller and saw the comments like:

The Australian crowd is known for being incredible in so many sports, so why has WTT just abandoned us 😭 its been 5 years since we got a big tourney

I would guess it's the other way around, WTT doesn't pick locations out of thin air. Places have to apply to host with the necessary funding and they should get an event. They have a page explaining how it works to host a WTT event. Might've been easier financially for Australia before the WTT era, then that's unfortunate.

correct,
why did Australia abandon WTT haha.

Australia didn't apply to host any senior WTT, but it does host WTT youth
This year is in Perth while 2022-2024 was in Darwin.
I found it quite strange that only WTT Youth events are played in Australia.

Theres a lot of indoor arenas in Australia but whether there is enough room to have practice tables as well I’m uncertain. Might be possible for Australia to host a WTT Champions event in one of these indoor arenas but may not have enough room to host a Smash due to not enough room for practice tables and taking into account WTT Infinity Arena layout.

Feeders, Contenders and Star Contenders could use one of those places that have already been used for WTT Youth Events or somewhere else in Australia.

i don't doubt Australia capability to host,
the question is, if TTA wants to host and if there got the money to burn or rather use the money for other more useful expenses.

Australia has hosted olympics, commonwealths etc, venues is not a problem.
I have been to a centers that can put up 40-50 tables (they normally have 20-25 up and only use up half the hall). This is way bigger than some halls that have feeders.
