Some news about him. He plays now at the Slovak Junior Open in the final day. He is playing quarter-final right now (live stream on ITTF channel on YT) and maybe semi and final later this afternoon.
It seems he has completely changed his equipment. Tenergy on the FH and maybe a Butterfly ZJK ALC ? I'm not sure about the blade because it looks like the ZJK ALC but the yellow diamond is not on the handle ?

EDIT : Well, he lost 3-4 against Joe Seyfried, a 16 y.o. french boy.

When he beat those two top 100 WR players you mentioned I talked with a club mate about Harimoto and I said that he'd be a big contender to fight with the Chinese in the future but my mate was pretty convinced he would not be a threat to the Chinese saying that the Chinese player's training is just too high while other countries almost always plateau under the skill level of Chinese.

It's probably too early to tell but I'm a sucker for the under dog and hope Harimoto can reach his full potential :)

He didn't do bad in this tournament, beating 2 players both 4-1, one of which he has lost to before. He only lost in the quarterfinals

Actually, i too agree with his point, this young player could be a great player in the future no doubt, but i am sure China has lots of younger players who can beat him with no mercy but they didn't show them or made them in tours yet, so i think China will always keep generations to be on top for years coming, i feel like this player will be like Jun Mizutani in the future, he will reach 4-6 ranks at most in his generation, unless China will bring much more players then i think he can't be even in top 10 for long.

We just have to wait, i don't think Japan will wake up and China will sleep, but who knows, we want to see more non Chinese rivals in the future.

One thing, however, is that China definitely will never bring in more than 6~7 top players into the world rankings. They know that it'll be bad publicity. That's the reason they only send at most 6-7 players to world tour events (even the China Opens) at a time. So no one has to worry about the top 10 spots being all China.

And about Harimoto, there's nothing actually stopping him from becoming the same level as the top Chinese, as long as he truly has incredible talent that doesn't burn out before he matures. He can also train in China for a while if they want him to.

Good to hear that, that is why i said "Unless", good to keep less players for China in world top ranking then.

We would like him to grow up stronger and smarter and in top performance, but we don't know what factors may affect him that he may not go far to the #1 ranking in the future, even if he could be #1, for how long? actually we like to see a player who is non chinese in the first 3 top ranking for long time, no point to be #1 or #2 for 1 year non chinese player then Chinese players taking 1-3 places for 8 years.

What is his ranking now?

Even if he lost this final, I find him very impressive again. For his age, I find his gestures very good, he has a powerful forehand and I like how he controls and redirects the powerful shots from his opponent with his backhand (a bit like Zhang Jike when he does this or Zhu Yuling).
I still think he can become a very good player when he grow up.
