Okay, I think I better understand you now - so you like really hard outer plies (like walnut or rosewood) since I have never really considered koto soft. How far back from the table are we speaking about here and how often do you end up there when rallying?

To be simply clear as far as i have understand my self i want a blade a little softer than intencity carbon but harder than timo boll spirit. and thats it guess. it no about how many times you play far from table or closer its just to find something to fits you as much as possible i think, i know theres no perfect blade but if theres something u dont like in a blade then you cant et it out of your head.
the idea of an old viscaria that as mentioned above sounds pretty good. also someone told me to check xiom vega series. i really dont know and we are in the middle of the season not a perfect time for testing :p

viscaria is the same as TBS in terms of plies though, so if tbs feels too soft, the viscaria likely would too.

Shuki, I am not an expert on Blade , but the one time I had the good fortune to hit with an older viscaria , it felt very crisp, I was hitting with a TBS recently and it did not feel that way. In fact, my ZJK ALC feels crisper , may be I am wrong , may be its to do with balance of the blade , I would let the EJs here comment more on this...

Here's the thing, I've tried a few viscarias and tbs's, I've had some old tag of both (no serial but not 1st gen, 2nd). My worst of the viscaria blades was actually an old tag one, it was mushy and NOT crisp. Maybe the older ones tend to be better because of the wood being older on them, but I'm convinced with the experience I've had with them, that it varies just as much with the old ones as it does the new ones. you can get a new one that plays better or an old one that plays better. Regardless, the composition of viscaria vs tbs is exactly the same and if you get 20 of each and lined them up in ways like how thick each ply is or how high a ball bounces off them, they wouldn't be all viscarias on one side of the spectrum and all tbs on the other end. They would have a random order because they are the same blade. I'd recommend figuring out which handle he likes more if he wants to go ahead and go for that composition.

I sold the viscaria that plays poorly for 300 USD. I don't think it's worth the price especially if you aren't guarenteed that it will play well at all.

I guess Carl that is the case. At that time I had T05 on both side and the Viscaria just felt soo good, the feeling was so perfect I could not miss any shot. I know sometimes this phenomenon happens especially with new equipment and then the WOW factor turns otherwise. Still just wanted to share my experience ...

@ ttmonster, you may have hit on why Baal often says that ZJK ALC feels more like an old Black Tag Viscaria than any of the newer Viscarias or the TB ALC.

You should see if you can find and try a Schalger Carbon and/or a Garaydia T5000. They may have the feeling you want because they do not have the Arylate that I think you are feeling and that make the Viscaria and TBS and TB ALC have a soft feeling. Those two blades have carbon without Arylate.

Before I start..... I'm starting to see people interpreting "buzz words" such as "feeling, hard, soft" all differently! Makes it difficult to follow at times.

To continue what Carl has said, I've played with a Schlager Carbon for years.

I would describe the "feeling" as soft - I've had it paired with Tenergey 2.1mm on both sides, and you can't really "feel" the ball on the bat. It's amazing for looping away from the table, but it lacks a bit of control (is a bit quick), for the closer exchanges.

I found my close to the table flicks and loops going long, unless I was playing well.

The Schlager Carbon has Tamca 5000 (opposed to Arylate or ZLC) - The "quickest" of the carbon blades you can get.

Yep. I interpreted chen-an's not liking that Stiga feeling as not liking that crips snap and wanting less vibration. I interpreted his feeling that Viscaria etc were too soft as the Arylate under the top as being soft because the top ply of Koto is not soft.

The Schlager Carbon has a Cypress (like Hinoki) top ply which grabs the ball well and gives a soft contact feel but different than the soft give of Arylate under the top ply. And the T5000 Carbon under the Cypress makes the blade feel solid without too much vibrations. The Garaydia T5000 is a blade made with the same plies and material but I think the thickness may be a tiny bit different. So they may have made it a tiny bit slower.

The soft wood feel of Cypress on the top ply with the solidity of the T5000 and the Balsa under it, give the Schlager Carbon a solid feel but without a lot of vibration and without that crisp snap that so many Stiga blades have. I could be wrong with what I was thinking in what I read in chen-an's posts. But I think that kind of blade is worth him testing because it may be what he was looking for.

I'd agree with all of that!

The Garaydia T5000 is supposed to be a touch slower than the SC - Although without playing with it, I couldn't say for sure.

The thickness is very similar (0.2mm different I believe) - But to all intents and purposes, the Garaydia replaces the SC as Butterflies rocket ship!

Yep. That and the Primorac Carbon which would probably also be good if the other two are.

That is a good term: Rocket Ship.

guyz what do you think about the hurricane long series?

I think it's slow, even compared to alc or zlc blades.
Maybe it's even slower compared to stiga blades like rosewood v or ebenholz v.
Also head size is a bit extreme, start thinking of having a blade that weighs around 200g with a very thin handle.
And this if you don't put too much glue in the rubbers.

Try all the blades of your clubmates, find the one that suits you best, and buy one like it. Saves money.
