Missing your coffee Der_Echte :D ... why don't you take a job as a part time Barista , moonlighting as a ping pong player in Spin San Francisco . that might get you out of House Arrest . Worth pitching to Susan Sarandon :)
Day 11 of TT house arrest of zero TT.

Will Der_Echte play at even as USATT 1200 level when this ends in a week ???!!!

Man, if I tried to do anything other than drive wife around No Cal, the wife would have me locked down on the torture rack so soon and hard even the Goon Squad would cringe and pity at my limbs stretched out to above max.

One moar week fellas... one moar week.

Today I had round 2 with my friend visiting from HK, the one who beat me hard 7-0 [and i score less than 5 points per set...] last Saturday morning, i couldn't return any of his serves. [usually its more like 50-50 to me or even 60-40 for me]

We played in another venue, in front of the coaches, after each of us taking a 1h lesson. As soon as the lesson was finished we were ready for matches. I really wanted to do better than last time, and anyway it couldn't be worse. We agreed 4 sets win , like in WTTC

The 1st set, i was a bit tense, but I could return much better his serves, I wasn't moving so well and had some problems my 3rd ball attack, but it was clear that I was the better player in rallies, and that if I could attack first, receive correctly and control his first attack, i had great chances of winning the point. The first set was hard fought, i had a few set points first that i didn't convert, then he had a few set points, but rather luckily i managed to get it after a long deuce.

However, in the second set, i was still nervous, made some poor returns, which give him some easy kills, he played a bit better, and he got it. In the third set i was more positive from the start, started receiving and attacking better and won easily. In the 4th set, i was cruising ahead 8-5 and a bit overconfident when i missed a rather easy ball. That affected me mentally because i missed 2 receives and then played bad the next 2 points, he was 10-8 with his serve, but luckily he messed up, with one serve miss and then a bad choice on his next serve (a serve that i knew better how to receive), and i got it 12-10.

So i'm 3-1 up but it could have been 2-2 or 1-3, he's affected mentally I believe from here. I become more confident, my serves and 3rd balls get better and better. I win easily the last set.

He wants to continue, so we go for another match, and i beat him 4-0 merciless in total domination this time. His confidence is going down, he's making more mistakes while I play better and better (more consistency, better serves, better receives, better 3rd balls....)

So 8-1 so far, and a tie on aggregate, there's some time left so we continue to play.
Because i came back to a tie, then unconsciously, i start to get tense a bit again and to lose focus, and i lose 11-3 this set ! my worst set of the day... but i quickly recover my mind for the next 2 sets, to get a 10-2 lead. We play the last set, where if i lose it would mean an aggregate tie, but I get it with authority again, for an 11-2 CRUSH...dedicated to @ttmonster

I'm of course very happy with the result, and actually I carefully prepared to play him... hehehhe. Because in the preceding 1-to-1 lesson with the coach, I asked him to give me tips how to receive long serves to my FH, those same sidespin serves (hammer with FH, or BH serve) that he did to me, and spent a lot of time practising... So my error rate went down from 80+% (on Saturday) to 33% in the 1st-2nd set, and down to 20-% later...:cool:

Went to Westchester on Sunday. Had planned to go with a buddy so I told Azeez I would be there. Unfortunately, my buddy started Ramadan and didn't feel well and pulled out. I haven't played well at all because I lack training but I went to Princeton and played decently the night before. Unfortunately, that reduced my sleep to less than 5 hours.

I got to Westchester and played like trash, the lowest point being losing to a chopper I had lost to before again but this time 11-9 in the 5th and just wondering how I would have played with more training. I did get to hit and get some tips from Azeez.

I have to figure out how to slow the game down a little. Maybe short pips, maybe using a faster blade and blocking more and looping less. But maybe I am just overreacting to being rusty. We shall see.

I thought i was getting better.

But this morning, i went to the usual club, with a friend visiting from HK. I woke up late as he called him, and I jumped out of bed. but thats a lame excuse. after a quick warmup, we played some sets, and in only 30mns, he won 7-0, with me only scoring 5 points on average per set. Usually its roughly 50/50 between us.

I have always had problems against his serves, but today i wasn't able to receive at all. Simply, he puts too much spin (sidespin + backspin or topspin), perhaps even more spin and deepness than usual, and he kept making the long serves to my FH either with the hammer serve (from his FH side) or long BH serve to my FH side. I think i missed (or very weak receive) 80% of receives so there wasn't any match...

Fortunately, after 30mns only, it was too crowded and we were kicked out for one hour but we didn't wanna wait, so we headed for breakfast. If we continued i would have probably lost 20-0....

TT is truly humbling. A Like for support and not a Like for the results.

I doubt a week+ off will have you playing at my level, perhaps 1800, but not 1200!

I played last Thurs, neglected to post last Friday

2 hrs straight... only trained, no matches... varied between osph, modern PH and SH. was so into the flow of the training, neglected to video.

Hitting SH BH, a higher level member walked past and commented i should switch to SH ...

First time ever, first 2 attempts at Brett Clarke's check/tick mark SH BH loop motion, it rocketed off the Tenergy and my partner and an onlooker "WOW!" at the shots. Then they both tried my blade and commented on how bouncy the Tenergy was as well as how fast the American Hinoki blade was.

Missed the next few SH BH loops. Didn't try it that much.

Should be going back tomorrow night... will see if i can video some of my hitting.

Despite everything else, this surely made your weekend!

OSPH , is that a picture of Jiang Jiliang playing RPB in the legend's tour on your avatar ?

Random googling for a pic of JJL and came across it, i believe it was the legend's tour, but it definitely is JJL.

JJL and the rest (or select members) of the CNT circa 1987 visited NYC and gave a demo. It was very cool! 42andbackpains or our mutual friends may recall the rest of the team that put on the demo, I only recall Women's Champ, Cao Yan-hua *heart flutters*

In the first Legends tour JJL was quite unimpressive , it seemed like his knee injuries and time away from the level affected him ... but I think he did better this time around ... the european players have aged more gracefully ... I must say ...

in my language they have a saying , the poor's man's prediction comes true after its ignored for a day :p , I have seen your shakehand form and its way better than most PH players trying to switch ...

LOLOL -- you haven't seen how bad my SH FH is lately - or even looping lol

Not knocking Shuki (sorry brother, really i'm not) - I have pretty much same cocked wrist SH FH stroke as he does (i think) ... sometimes i cannot aim properly, it does make it a random practice which is ultimately good for partner, but bad for me as i cannot place the ball where i intended

for whatever reason, my SH BH block/punch is way more consistent, probably as you noted prior, my SH BH is because I'm hitting as if i was PH punching.

Forgot the exact nickname the Chinese have for Waldner, but it's something like 'forever young' ... so yeah lol

I honestly don't think it has to do anything with the switch .. its just your old PH playing style is influencing your SH.
