A bulgarian doctor, trying to tam down eventual panic:

"Let's take one of the worst days so far - February 10, when 108 people in China died from a coronavirus. On the same day: 26,283 people died of cancer. 24 641 people died from heart disease. 4300 people have died from diabetes, mosquitoes kill 2740 people every day. People kill 1,300 people every day. Snakes kill 137 people every day. ”

And thats true.

But at the same time I'll be not surprised at all if a Social Minister make a statement that the Covid-19 is good for the Retirement Funds :(

The bulgarian company Micar21 has a clue how to fight Covid-19.

https://www.trendingtopics.at/bulga...step-closer-to-developing-covid-19-treatment/

Sceptic or not, it deserves attention.

Baal, as a biologist, may explain the idea of the project.

Yes, quite a few molecules have been found this way, three or four different announcements about molecules targeting Covid19 in the last few days. Different companies are targeting different parts of the virus. These days this initial phase of drug discovery can go surprisingly fast. The key step is first showing it works on viruses in cells, then safety testing in humans (takes awhile), and whether the drug can get into the respiratory tract cells where the virus incorporates and hijacks the machinery, not just in vitro but in people. All that takes time and success rate is always lower than you'd like. Making a compound that gets where it needs to be in people in high enough concentration --bioavailability- is always a challenge.

Vaccine research has a big head start because of work done on related viruses like the ones that cause SARS and MERS. That's great news, but still we're unlikely to have a widely available vaccine before the end of this year or more likely months into next year. It's not impossible we'll have something sooner, given the unprecedented resources that are coming on line, but we shouldn't expect it. Better chance for some effective antiviral medications to be identified in the next six months. There's also some promising research on temporary immune modulation using monoclonal antibodies.

Right now we should be sufficiently worried about the coming weeks and months (good explanation why in the linked video). Washing hands, social distancing and other reasonable precautions should be taken seriously.

An interesting video ...

(but even more interesting - subtitles are not automatic and are written in the correct Russian language ...)

Even if delayed for several months, much will change ....

Say 1-2 years

Chinese ladies team could be SYS, WMY & CM
Chinese men's teams WCQ, FZD, LGL

Japanese might subtract Kasumi & Mizutani & add Hayata and Uda

Just those kind of dynamics, teams could reset and go back and train in local leagues, would benefit CNT as they have best depth of all teams

The doctor was comparing apples and oranges! He made me think about Xi Jingping's lame attitude when he tried to calm Chinese folks that the epidemic (now is officially pandemic) has cooled down in China.

Yeah, it would be much more optimistic to say that just after a year we'll live in a much younger world

CLOSED, COME TOMORROW (announcement on the public toilet's door).

THE WORLD STREET JOURNAL said:
March 10, 2020
TOKYO—If the Olympics can't go ahead this summer in Tokyo because of the coronavirus epidemic, the most realistic option would be to delay the event by one or two years, a member of the executive board for the Japanese organizing committee said.
The Tokyo 2020 Olympics will have to be postponed until better times. In any other way, you will not get a result simply because of the complete desynchronization of the sports calendar. Many of Olympic qualificative events initially scheduled for spring-summer 2020 got now canceled and the Olympic qualifying cycle in many sports remained incomplete. The Olympics will be rescheduled to 2021 and this will be the best possible solution of the present force-majeure. By the way, all the Olympiads of the new age up to 394 a.d. were held in odd years.

My sister teaches at Brooklyn College and they are doing on line courses as well now.
