Not table tennis related but Ding Liren is now the World Chess Champion. Just beat Ian Nepomiatchi in a match in the tiebreak portion after Magnus Carlsen relinquished the title.

I have to pass an exam today. If not I might just have to retake the class over the summer. So no TT this weekend. But there should be TT during the week as I head back to Philly for a visit.

I watched it live too, the last game came down to the wire (Ding Liren had 1.5 mins where he refused the draw) and was super exciting!

Nepo I think blew the match with too many quick and instinctive moves in difficult positions. Definitely something he has to work on. But hopefully since it was Russia vs China and not China vs China, some amongst us found it more exciting lol.

I'll be aiming to play tmr!!

I went to gym yesterday and the day before, worked on most machines, but upper body was on lighter weights as per recovery and then lower body as usual, and then cardio 30min (Sat) and 20min (Sun).

Despite the session is after a long day of work, I do hope that it will be another great session!

Going to focus on using backhand more aggressively on serve receive (where appropriate) and getting more side spin pendulum serves (without backspin).

I'll be taking a few days off. Been having a smashing good times for the last four days and me lil'arm is feelin' heavy and stiff.

After some rest, will have a light session on Thurs then more rest to get myself ready for an inter-club event next weekend: Home Game. More curry rice, chicken wings and beer! Woo Hoo!

Forgot to add, I'll be bringing my tripod.
So I am hoping I can at least capture 1 match.. (given rural town, I guess I have to start slow and bring in the idea of filming matches)

If you watch the pros, 99.9% of them do video their games. As the Mandolorian says, " This is the only way "

Oh yeah, if I am playing competitively, I always say no to filming if I am not filming, just to annoy my opponent.

Unless you are a minor, I protest that. The tournament organizer may have a say, but there is no right not to be filmed in a public place in the US.

I used to think that way too. But I have another friend who told me where I play is the recreation centre, and that is owned by the council. So it isn't exactly a public place and therefore people can say no.

If they get the referee and the referee says they can film without asking me, I will comply. Not sure what is written in my local league rulebook, never spend time reading that :D The key is to push my opponent out of their comfort zone.

Public is more about accessibility than about ownership, but if the ownership has a policy, then yes that policy is key. But the main thing is that it isn't the right of the opponent per se that plays a role, it is more the policy of the ownership.

At every other sport that I used to did before table tennis, no one really cares, does someone recording it or nah. But in TT, people are so sensitive about it, dunno why, really 🙃
On video losing to a geriatrics who uses pips out rubber can be distressing and cause PTSD. Pips do not show well on video. Depression and resentment is the side-effect of such endeavour.

Just got informed that the cap (whom I was planning to film my match with) can't play tonight as he got roped into doing something else. I will still bring my tripod but will have to try my luck to see who else don't mind letting me film our match.

Bit annoying but will have to make do with what I have.

Probably one of the worst sessions that I have played tonight, as I have no one to warm up with.

Played the no. 3 player first up. Wanted to warm up but he was just hitting left and right, so we just start the match.. My record against him has been very good, but today it dropped, possibly due to no warm up and also the camera effect. Whenever the camera is on, I always (subconsciously) want to make great shots so that it is captured. I was down 1-3 then came back to win 4-3. But there is a comp coming up and it is only best of 3, so I would have lost if I played like today. My backhands were just terrible and my forehands were not steady enough.
He seem to only have 2 serves: reverse back spin and reverse side spin. I have not really found any good way of receiving it.

I will post the full ugly video as I intended to gain feedback.

Please let me know how I can do better against him. I think if I warm up before the comp then my chances will increase again but perhaps there are something that I am not seeing.

I then played another guy but he was nowhere near the level, so it was a 4-0 win.

Then I played the first guy again, and I won 4-1 (without the camera).

I still didn't play well and I am not happy about having such a bad start, but I think I really need a proper warm up to get the feeling and to improve my steadiness of the backhands and forehands to stand a good chance.
