https://www.hktta.org.hk/cgi-bin/display/news.cgi?news=3935
After being eliminated in the play-off, the Hong Kong team has no chance of qualifying for the Olympics as the top 8 of the World Team Table Tennis Championships. Now it can only hope to become the highest-ranked team that has not locked in an Olympic berth in the rankings announced after the World Team Table Tennis Championships or through intercontinental ranking reserve status and strive to catch the last train of Olympic team qualifications.

https://www.hktta.org.hk/cgi-bin/display/news.cgi?news=3939

Since the establishment of team events in the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Hong Kong team has qualified for the Olympics in every edition. Together with this year's Paris Olympics, it has been the 5th consecutive edition to participate in this 4-year international stage. Doo Hoi Kem, who will participate in the competition for the 3rd time, said that qualifying this year is much more difficult than the past two: "It means a lot to me to enter the Olympics again this time, because it is my 3rd time, and I think this is the most difficult time." She continued: "The 1st time was when I was a complete newbie; the 2nd time I was more in my prime; and then this year, I actually found it very difficult because I was always injured. And I always had poor performance in the past year. In addition to facing injuries, I also have to face losing, and I have to actively adjust myself, which is not easy. So I think this year’s significance is very huge, but at the same time, I have to remind myself to enjoy every moment." The Hong Kong women's table tennis team won a historic team bronze medal at the previous Tokyo Olympics. "Ah Doo" hopes to seek a breakthrough in the Paris Olympics: "Of course, I am aiming for a medal, but not putting too much pressure on myself."

"Ah Doo" was troubled by injuries to her right hand last year. She strained her right thigh before the group stage in this year's tournament. As a result, she had to play in bandage for the match against Kazakhstan. After today's match, she had to apply ice on her right hand and right leg. When asked about the progress of the injury, she said that she had a lot of help from "noble people": "Actually, my elbow has recovered almost 90%. I feel very grateful because there are noble people helping me. It's like a miracle; as for my leg, the injury is more acute and will happen when playing high-intensity games."

The 31-year-old Lee Ho Ching is currently the eldest member of the Hong Kong women's team. She has already competed in the 2012 London Olympics and the 2016 Rio Olympics, reaching the quarterfinal in both. In the 2021 Tokyo Olympics, she joined forces with "Ah Doo" and Soo Wai Yam to earn the bronze medal and has witnessed the ups and downs of the women's table tennis team over the years. If she is called up by the Hong Kong team to compete in the Paris Olympics again this time, she will become a "veteran of 4 dynasties". She said after the match: "I feel very deeply after successfully qualifying this time because I played very poorly at the Chengdu World Championships last time. My mentality at the time was that I was lost for a time after the Olympics. At that time, I didn't know what I was doing after winning at the Olympics. What am I playing for? Then I feel like heaven and the team gave me a chance to make up for it this time." She added: "I feel like heaven and the team still believe in me after I played so poorly last time and let me play, I was deeply touched and felt grateful, because you don’t often get a second chance." She also believes that participating in the Olympics is a natural result and will not put too much pressure on herself. "On the contrary, now I enjoy and cherish every match even more. We have only completed the first stage goal, and there will be tomorrow's match. "8 to 4" is our second goal. I definitely want to continue to compete for medals."

As for Zhu Chengzhu, who is regarded as Soo Wai Yam's successor, said: "Everyone said before setting off that top 8 was the goal, and now we have really achieved it, but because it was only my first time to participate [in the Olympics], I didn't realize what it meant. Of course, reaching the Olympic stage is everyone’s dream, and I feel like I’m in 'still in a dream'."

Although Lam Yee Lok and Ng Wing Lam did not have a chance to play in this tournament, they also contributed a lot on the sideline. Every time their teammates scored, the two would jump up and applaud vigorously. When they lost, they would speak out to comfort their teammates and continue to cheer on. 27-year-old Lam Yee Lok competes for the first time this year. She said with a smile: "We have prepared a lot of lozenges, so we don't have to worry about sore throats! And we are all very proud to be part of this team together, because seeing everyone even if they are in different positions, they are dedicated to this team." Ng Wing Lam was already a member of the Hong Kong women's team last time, and her mother and brother came to Busan this time to cheer for her and the Hong Kong team. The 20-year-old rookie is also proud of her teammates: "I know my teammates are under a lot of pressure before the match, but seeing them perform to a very good level on the court, I am very proud of them, for this goal of top 8, everyone worked very hard, prepared by watching videos before the match, or brainstormed how to practice, and did a lot of things, and finally succeeded, I am really happy! I saw the sisters performing at their best in such a stressful situation, and I've learned a lot!"

DHK wins all 3 WT encounters in the majors including this one at WTTC 2024. DHK is practically tied with CIC in WT encounters.

At first I thought this post was about Timo Boll! You know TB, TB ALC, etc. Couldn't figure why Timo should play pickleball.
when you reach a certain age demographic; pickle-ball suddenly look attractive.

Let coach Ito handle the line-ups then. It's a good career path for her since she likes talking so much. And her fondness of doing things differently from everyone else might give us the lineups we've been begging for.

Plot twist:
Ito, Kihara and Harimoto

Coach Ito: Repeat after me, Hirano
Hirano: Repeats perfectly
Coach Ito: Screws up completely

Is WTT not showing any live streaming now?
I think it is behind firewall now that all the action is centered on table 1.

In the US, you can watch it via ESPN3. Go to ESPN website and type in table tennis to pull it up.

I just finished watching Hong Kong dispatching the Chinese Taipei's women team after 3 hours and 45 minutes. Obviously I only watched the last 35 minutes. It was very exciting.

France v.s. Portugal men's team is coming up. Followed by Chinese women's team against Korea's? And followed by Chinese men's team against Japan? Anyway I cannot keep track. Gotta do some real work and not watch table tennis all day or all night long.

@Tony's Table Tennis ,
What is Kao smoking these days? I wanna have it too.... and dispatching WR#20 11-1, 11-2 etc as a side-effect.
He is just a future top 20 player busy getting to his true ranking spot.
he is still young, as you can see when he was leading in the 3rd game, his concentration dropped - he even turned around to look at his coach (Chuang), and next point loss, a time out was taken. He lost something like 4 or 5 points on a trot from what I call, really terrible errors for his level

2023/2024 has been a good year for Kao on the international stage.
even including a 2-3 loss to Wang Chu Qin in Asian Champ

He first became famous/known after Lima 2023
R32 beating Meng Fangbo 3-0
R16 beating Aruna 3-1
QF beating Robles 3-1
SF beating Qiu Dang 3-1
Sadly his steam went out and lost 1-4 to Marcos in the final.
He was I think WR100 something then.
and since then he has quite a few wins against top 50 players and have tight losses (ie against WCQ).

Here is a highlight video from Lima

He is coached by Chuang and what I like about Chuang was, Chuang used to take 1 or 2 or 3 of his students out on tours to be his practice partner, to even sit on his coaching corner.
He is a very hands on mentor, and the kids all benefit from his wealth of knowledge.

It isn't surprising that his "club" has now taken a fair share of the national junior players and most of them performing near the top of the domestic ranking list.
