My top-sheet is pure G1 goodness, but my sponge is a springy ESN tensor. What rubber am I?

No seriously folks, I mean it.

I have no friggin' idea whatsoever, which rubber out there:

  • has a top sheet like a Nittaku G-1,
  • but also has a fast and springy tensor-style sponge.

Sorry if that little revelation disappoints you at all.

...But honestly, I really don't know.... I got nothing.

...Not a single bloody clue over here sorry.

When it comes to insights on this particular TT quandry, I've got plenty of nothing ...

Yep! Not a sausage....

Bugger all ideas frankly.

...

So then... ummm....

Do YOU happen to know what rubber I mean?

You know... One that might fill the above description to a tee?

Any idea what rubber out there best fits the bill?

...cause I'm looking for one. All suggestions welcome. 😁😁😁😁😜😜

(Sorry for the clickbait and backhanded recommendation request everyone, but the last time I asked for rubber recommendation, nobody bloody answered at all 😂😂😂 Not a single bloody click.

...Just thought I'd try something different this time. 🙂😎 )

Thanks folks 😎😎

G1 has the G1 top sheat (obviously) and a springy, tensor-style sponge. Tenergy and Dignics sponges are somewhat springier — which, imho, is disadvantageous for those of us outside the world top 200 or so.

Tenergy 05!!!!

G1 is Nitakku's answer to T05.
Yeah, good point.

My bad - I forgot to add the words "affordable", "left-field suggestions welcome" and "not Butterfly" to my question.

(Not a cheapskate, or a Butterfly-hater over here.... I'm just 'thrifty through principled necessity' 😂😂)

Good points 🙂 thanks for contributing.

I'm asking because I'm looking for something specific for a new blade-dev project I'm working on.

I considered all the usual suspects when deciding what rubber to try, but none of them were quite right, and I ultimately came up a blank.

So now, I'm looking for a few more 'unusual' suspects (...in an somewhat unusual manner 😂😂)

I honestly don’t know why people still hate T05.

Most new rubbers on the market are more expensive while T05 is still better.

T05 is the rubber your are asking for. My other recommendations would be Hammond Z2 or Genextion. Both of these rubbers are also more expensive then T05…

Something that I found that was similar to Tenergy 19 was GEWO Nexxus EL Pro 48 SuperSelect.

It's bouncy and the top sheet has great grip. Also it isn't too expensive.

Brilliant suggestions everyone... Thanks so much, I really mean it.

In the posts above are at least five or six possible alternatives which honestly never occurred to me.

Which is exactly what I wanted frankly.... possibilities outside of my own imagination.

Thanks a bunch folks. If you know of any others though, please don't be afraid to suggest those as well.

Cheers! ☺️🙏

Thanks for the recommendation.

I don't hate T05... Seriously I don't. I actually think it's a really great rubber and I like using it.

It's that little paper price tag that's attached to the packaging that I can't stand -- they're God-awful things.

Against my better judgement, I actually read a Butterfly rubber price tag the other day. Scariest goddamn thing I've seen in years!

All those zeros at the end shocked the living crap out of me. Made my hair turned white...I literally went "Eeek!" on reading it and ran out of the shop.

...crazy thing is, it was just a bunch of zeros, all lined up in a row. But they still gave me a heart attack.

Who knew that literally a line of absolutely nothing, could ever be so intimidating? 🤣🤣🤣

Tibhar Aurus Prime perhaps? I suggest you look into that one.
You could start by google tanslating this review:

I'm bringing the Aurus Prime into the mix as the regular Aurus and the G-1 already share some traits like the grippy and tough/tight topsheet, similar catapult and similar spin capabilities (G-1 has more spin, though). According to this review, the Aurus Prime has a noticibly more powerful sponge compared to the regular Aurus.

Dan and Drinkhall have reviewed the Prime as well:

P.S.: I also like the DHS Goldarc 8 suggestion by Ultravisitor.

But it is also a different topsheet altogether.
Aurus Prime is one of the few "thin topsheet/thicker max sponge" rubbers by Tibhar and most closely resembles Andro rasanter and the likes.
It has not a lot to do with the Aurus rubbers of yore and no-one really knows why they used that name. Next step: Imagine a 2024 tensor being called Speedy Spin Pro-Select ;-)

I know that.
The reviewer (tt-spin) still mentions multiple times that the topsheet is "typically" tight (also straff!), typical in relation to the Aurus series.
The topsheet is not soft like the one of the Rakza 7 for instance. Even though it follows the thin/thick-concept, the topsheet of the Aurus Prime is still somewhat similar to regular Aurus and G-1 feel-wise, but the sponge offers more power than both of these rubbers.

I played G1 in the past and the main characteristics that stood out to me were the great feeling of holding the ball and the sponge which isn't so bouncy but still has quite decent potential for shot quality. A modern rubber I've found to have the same kind of secure feeling and long contact time is Joola Tronix ACC. However, this is a more control oriented rubber. If you're looking for fast and bouncy, maybe Dynaryz ACC is a better choice.

Do keep in mind that modern tensors seem to be tending towards thinner and thinner topsheets in order to maximize the sponge thickness. If you really want a thick topsheet, maybe Butterfly is your only option.
