Chess---- Carlsen
Fair enough, yes.
If one would ask some random people on the streets what they know about Norway, there's actually a fair chance that some people will point to Carlsen as he has made some headlines and has done a lot for the popularity of chess in general in recent years.
But (at least for me) the thing with chess is that the Norwegians as a country - despite Carlsen - are not regarded as one of the dominant chess nations and therefore not really known as a chess nation. Chess is still quite popular in (Sowjet) Russia for instance, with the Indians and the Americans gaining a lot of track.
And as a whole, the other nordic nations have a bit more to offer in my opinion, so to speak.

For me personally: I dislike Norway for their "fishing" policy as they are still into whaling (much like Denmark via the Faroer Islands), which is a big no-no, i. e. "red flag" for me. Some people don't like to mention it or disregard the topic as unimportant, but for me it is important and as a matter of fact, whaling is probably the thing that comes to my mind first when I think of Norway...

My cohort will immediately say Norway? A-ha! (The greatest pop song ever came from them)

Norway is the absolute superpower country in the Winter Olympics (which unfortunately no one really watches...)
