Question for someone who watches Sora more than I do - why does he seem to just completely fall apart in so many matches? 11-3 11-1 in games 2 and 3 to LYJ
My guess is that still being a child, he has a harder time managing his emotions. Being very young in competitive sport is highly correlated with extreme inconsistency. This is especially pronounced in finer motor skill sports like TT.

Mima Ito is killing SXY. Mima is up 2-0, 5-2. Let's see if this holds.
Utter domination in their first time matching up as adults. Will be interesting to see how SXY does if and when they face off again

Mima completely wrecked SXY 3-0 with none of the sets being particularly close.

Now I mentioned this is the best I've seen Mima play in years, but how much of this is due to the newer generation of KM and SXY not having enough table time with Mima clones? Kinda wonder about that.

Also, this historic asswhooping of a Chinese player comes in the match right after haters of Mima call her "washed up." It's almost as if the TT gods want to make it abundantly clear how god awful the takes of certain posters on the internet are.

Even though he is 17 he seems professional enough to me that I wouldn't think that fully explains some of the complete implosions he seems to have.

The crowd at this Shenzen event is very interesting for a lot of reasons.

For one, the WCQ and SYS support is on full display and it's both impressive and terrifying. I'm not sure I've ever seen such ardent cult-like support for any athlete in an individual sport in recent history. This is like Beatle-mania or something. Absolutely bonkers phenomenon.

Second, the support I've seen for non-Chinese (nationally at least) players like the Harimotos is really interesting. By fan support it seems like HT is as or even more popular than Lin Shidong. This baffles me considering LSD is the #1 and Chinese and has superhuman skill. Is it only that he took the #1 spot from WCQ and the fans are snubbing him for it?

The environment might have something to do with it. I don't know how often he's played in front of 60k people before but something like that might exacerbate already problematic tendencies.

Chinese girls find WCQ cute. They don't find Lin Shidong cute.

I suspect they will find money to get Zhang Rui to unretire.

The one thing we know is that Chen Xingtong plays dead bur is never dead... you have to stab her three times and then cut off the head for good measure. And then burn the body to make sure she doesn't eat you alive in zombie form.

CXT with the slick tactics throwing in the slow ultra spinny balls and really breaking Hayata's rhythm. Feels like most points she got in 4th and 5th were mishits and outright misses from Hayata unable to adjust to the different pace.

Having to spend her timeout well ahead in the 2nd game to close that one out probably was a crucial issue.

That said, I think Hayata has an issue of keeping up her intensity throughout an entire match.
