Great lineup so far: KM vs. Miwa, Sora vs. LYJ, and now Odo vs, ZYL.

Thse two matches were so below what we expected in terms of drama. Sora is a shotmaker but he still needs to develop a complete suppression game. And figure out something more than hidden serves to get attack opportunities.

Odo is getting worse and worse. KM could've ended it in straight games. The only reason it seemed close is because of Odo's hidden serve.

Tough loss, but a good experience for Odo. And Odo is getting better with experience, but it's gonna take time. But National Coach Nakazawa has his work cut out for him. Miwa's doing fine, but he has to bring everyone else's level up at a better pace.

ZYL controls Odo's firepower to take 4 straight from 0-2 down. She might do it again if she meets Shin in the semis, but hard to see her pulling it off against Wang Yidi.

LYJ looks to be in top form, he's probably the favorite to win it now. Glad to see him getting back in form.

XP is playing well, I think the switch from the acB to the W968 suits him well. He has great quickness and FH, should emphasize that. His BH is more based on spin and direction changes, had some beautiful blocks for winners in his game against JWJ, and the W968/H3 combo suits that well too. I think he'll get even better once he gets used to his new setup. I saw a lot of overshot balls in BH rallies, tends to be an issue in the beginning with the higher throw of the new setup.

LYJ is finally taking the ball earlier on his FH and more willing to be more aggressive on his FH and also taking better timings. Previously his FH somehow is always late (probably due to his extreme BH stance) so it was a huge weakness if the opponent repeatedly targets his FH with pressure. He definitely improved his FH game heaps.

Now he is actively looking for opportunities to attack with FH following the chiquita, which is also something I'm increasingly favouring. Because his chiquita is so high quality it is difficult for opponents to hit high quality shots past him, so they give him lukewarm shots and the FH is the best tool to punish such shots. Whereas if he followed up with BH it is not so strong and he is entering only a 50-50 rally (when facing very good topspin rally players like Harimoto or Felix Lebrun)
