You can't get any better than a fully form WCQ really. If Hugo is like WCQ, God saves the CNT, lol. The only way to stop that nuclear powered FH of WCQ and Hugo is to call FZD back.
WCQ advantage is gone when he can be called for his illegal serves.
i think he relied way too much from it.
I personally feel WCQ technique is complete and he doesn't need any dodgy serves.
but it has been a habit when he needs easy points, he would start hooking.

I guess if TTR was to stay, WCQ needs to face more rallies, than 3rd ball finishes.

Hugo was just power.
he had a nights rest, so final next day isn't a bad thing.

This is historic. To beat China in China (okay, Macau but practically China) at a World Cup with the CNT coaches and players sitting courtside is just amazing. And now with the World Championship less than a month away, CNT will be scrambling to come up with a solution for Hugo. I am so hoping Hugo can continue this amazing form for the WTTC.

They need Ma Long against Hugo. He was always Hugo’s kryptonite
Ma Long is about to retire anyways. He probably would have struggled if Hugo was hitting hard with accuracy like today.

Remember Ma Long lost to similar hard hitters Patrick Franziska and Lee Sang Su.

They will blame the seamless ball and make sure it isn't used at the next big event until they figure it out lol.
while everyone else (Iran etc) are wanting the ball to stay on forever

funny that there is only 1 seamless ball making in the world, and it is made in China (not sure what the tariff would be by this time next year)

Had he played like this during the Olympics last year he’d have easily beaten Möregårdh and would’ve even had a realistic chance to win the Olympics games
I think he played mostly like this to be honest. I think that inability to call a timeout in game 1 vs Moregardh screwed him royally.

Well, both LSD and WCQ have gotten some wins thanks to their super illegal hook serve when things get tough, especially LSD.
Regardless tho, WCQ is still the current best and strongest player in the world. He has technique and power in spades just like Hugo.

He's pretty strong in rallies, imho. Being able to best ML, even aging is still supreme in rally, is kinda a testament just how good his rally actually is. He just prefers dodgy and easy points. He has to fix that habit now.

China has vast resources at disposal. They can hire 10 pro to mimic Hugo to train with the top CNTs. They can get early access to the ball in WTTC I am sure. They get extra warm up time.

Hugo beating 3 top CNT remind me of Timo in 2005, trembling the world of table tennis. But Germany has far more resources than Brazil.

This is not going to be easy leading up to WTTC. Hugo will have to train hard, but also smart because they will study him really closely.

All the best Hugo. You bring hope to table tennis revival worldwide ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥

true

I saw someone shared a photo where WCQ even used his hand/fingers to block the contact, his head wasn't the main blocker
i should have saved that pic.

there was also a moment from WCQ-Hugo match where WCQ didn't even toss the ball high enough, he just let it drop

See? Hugo should just do what Hugo does best-bomb them all as hard as possible. LSD's playstyle is kinda like XX. He gets the ball back all the time, like boa, but he isn't as stable as XX.

It was clear that LSD was scared of those huge FH and BH. He was so afraid of those, several times he tried to end the point quick by outright blasting Hugo's push to his BH with power, but he didn't get the timing right because he was too much in a hurry. Same goes when they were in a rally; the power and quality are just too much for poor LSD.

That being said, seems like both LSD and Harimoto has similar issue; they can't deal with players who bomb the ball like Hugo and WCQ.
I thought LSD would have better defence, but no, Hugo's loopkills just ripped a hole in his defence. It is just way too hot to handle. The way he was hitting today was out of the world.

LSD couldn't shutdown Hugo's game because he doesn't have the short push capabilities to do so. Players like Ma Long and ZJK can short push everything including short no spin and heavy sidetopspin so they can shut down an in-form attacker.

have to give credit to Germany over Hugo's success than Brazil imo.
He moved there in 2014, that is 11 years ago. when he was 18 years old

WCQ has better short game which is why he fared better than LSD, but WCQ relied way too much on illegal serves at crucial moments - that shielded a lot of his weaknesses in topspin defence and rallying unlike FZD who worked extremely hard on those (since he didn't rely on illegal serves)

If LSD is at his best like last year I think he will absolutely blitz Hugo. LSD has more speed and compactness over the table and is probably even more stable far from the table.

I think LSD has definitely fallen off slightly from his insane purple patch last year which seems to happen to lots of young players (Felix, Tomokazu) so if Hugo plays well it could be a good game.

LJk held off Darko pretty well so we'll see if he can beat LSD again.
This aged like milk

Yes I wanted to say the same, I think Hugo lived in France first then moved to Germany and has been training there for many years. In this season even tho he wont play in the Bundesliga he will still train at Ochsenhausen Facility I believe

Yes I am aware of that. Germany played a pivotal role. Brazil just didn't have the resources and that level of players.
